I'm heading into the tire shop today to replace the trash stock Michelins. I've narrowed it down to the Cooper AT3 XLT and the Falken Wildpeaks. I'm leaning towards th Wildpeaks but they're around $500 more for the set.

Are they actually $500 better or is that alot of marketing wank?

They used to be almost the cheapest, gained popularity and now are on the other side of the spectrum regarding pricing. Look great...hard to swallow the extra cost though...

Depends on usage. Were I to spend all my time offroad, yes, I'd pony up the extra $. For mainly onroad usage? Naah, I'd go with the Coopers.

Coopers flat spot…fyi. At least my XLT’s did.

They were great in the snow and everything else I tossed at them. 27k miles I replaced them.

    https://youtube.com/shorts/nCz5HS5X5Gw?feature=share

This was 2wd in the rolling hills around my place. We had rain, sleet, and then snow. It was pretty slick on the roads. I was pretty impressed with the performance.

The flat spotting on the first 10k miles was annoying though.

I'd say my usage will be about 80% road, 15% gravel/dirt and 5% thick, sticky mud.

Did they flat spot after sitting for a long time? My truck gets driven at least every couple days.

Do not get the coopers I have them they suck once you get down to 60% plus I’ve had balance issues since day one. my wife’s wildpeaks are 100x better I’m scrapping my coopers with 22k on them and getting falkens.

the issue I have is these coopers fill up with snow and basically become a racing slick. Plus the flat spot thing is annoying. And one tire will not balance out it’s been bad since day one and my tire shop wouldn’t warranty it.

I can’t even get my wife’s Subaru with the wildpeaks to slip the tires in the snow they are impressive. Very quiet and look awesome to.

IMHO, were I to use them that much for gravel/dirt/mud, yeah, I'd pony up the extra dollars for the Wildpeaks. I did lose about 0.5MPG because they're a heavier tire, but they're a good tire for sure. They absolutely lasted longer than my Cooper XLTs.

    No bueno

Looks are the lowest priority to me. Performance is the most important.

We get lots of snow here, and even though I plan to buy dedicated winters next year I still want the snow capabilities. Sounds like the Coopers really aren't that great after all.

I don't mind losing .5 or even 1.5 mpg for better tire performance. Longer tread life is good to.

Sounds like I'll be going for the Falkens unless someone makes a really good case for the Coopers. I'm okay spending the extra money as long as the increased performance is there, especially since The Woman drives the truck while I'm on my work rotations so money comes second to my family's safety.

This. I think 60% was very generous. Mine became worthless well before that and I run centramatics wheel balancers.

One more thing, when new the tires seemed to “wonder” more until at least 5k miles and some wear down on the tread. Not all that great for towing if that is a concern for you.

When I was hauling top soil for 3 days straight in town, my rear tires wore down 4/32nds. I was shocked and knew these were not going to make it to 30k.

I have Wildpeaks AT3, and they are definitely worth the money, I had Yoko X-at before.

    The Wildpeaks are:
    - Whisper quiet, they are as quiet normal car tires.
    - Great in the rain, way better than the Yoko
    - Great in the sand, gravel.
    - Tows great

I drive about 70% on the road, rest is gravel and dirt road, and tows often, the Yoko was great, I liked it a lot, but the Wildpeaks are just so much better, we bought a set for wife's car, and I was amazed at how quiet they were so I bought a set for myself, it'll be pretty hard to switch for my use.

I have yet to drive in deep snow with them, but I've heard great things about them so not too worried.

Ya I’m probably closer to 50 percent with 22k on them. I had to chain up a couple weeks ago to go up a logging road with 6” of snow after getting stuck 3 times and digging my self out no traction whatsoever

I had the NITTO trail grapplers on my 2015. 12:50x35x18. They was good tires, lasted pretty well, a bit loud but they are mud tires so that is to be expected. I just recently installed the Faulkin wild peak mud terrains and these ride much much smoother, and hardly any road noise at all. I only have about 1000 miles on mine but so far I reallY like them

Yep. I got stuck on my own property with those tires. Pretty sad I had to walk up 100 yards and start the tractor and have the wife suit up.

New I have to admit they did excellent. It was a short romance.

Don't know if it matters, but they do come with tread life warranty. Most AT tires don't, from what I could tell when I bought mine.

No issues with mine in the year or so I've had them.

    55,000 MILE TREAD LIFE WARRANTY
The WILDPEAK A/T3W features a 55,000 mile / 90,000 km Limited Tread Life Warranty on all sizes.

Another vote for Wildpeaks. We run them on an old 4Runner with upgraded suspension. Very polite road manners, good off-road (aired down in sand, rocks and gravel, mud and puddles… but no bogs) and in city rain (all the slippery pavement oils). Cannot attest to performance in snow, but I read good things.

I always ran Wildpeaks and I currently run them. It used to be hard to beat for the price. Now they are a lot of good tires in the price range,

No experience with the Coopers. Wildpeaks are a great tire. Heavy for their size but if a little mpg drop isn't a concern due to weight, they're worth the extra $$. Also, online seems to only be about a $200 difference between the 4 tires (about $50 tops more for the Falkens) - not sure why your shop is saying $500. That was for the LT 275/70r18 size, btw.

Well, I pulled the trigger on a set of Wildpeaks. They'll be installed on Friday. My wallet has gone and hid.

They good tires but I found that they don't clear mud well at all. We have sticky gumbo mud and it turns KO2s into slicks.

We do offer a 30 day, 1000 mile (whichever occurs first) trial period on the Wildpeak AT3w. If you don't like them for any reason (smell, performance, ride, etc), return to your tire shop to exercise the trial period and use the credit towards the Coopers or another tire.

The Wildpeak AT3w also includes road hazard coverage for the first 3/32nds of wear or 2 years, whichever occurs first. However, speaking as a consumer, purchasing tire certificate or additional coverage from the tire store (if offer) makes sense and will pay for itself after the first incident on truck base tires (AT, HT, RT, or MT).
