Do any of y’all clean up trail trash or just complain about it? That’s why it’s nice to have a tire trash bag to throw any crap that the scabs leave behind.

    This.

They know someone will pick it up on and don't care of the optics, environmental or financial impact.

When I go fishing, I try to bring a bag and clean up others broken lures, line and packaging that the wankers leave on shore.

Leave it cleaner than when I arrived. It never ends though.

    It's sad.

When we go backpacking, we easily leave with one or two grocery bags full of bullshit all the day hikers drop

My son is in Scouts so essentially the entire family is. Leave No Trace is part of every walk/hike we do, even if it isn't ours. It's amazing what people just discard wherever. Pretty sad really.

My favorite hiking/camping shirt is of a dog and hiker (which I usually am with) and says "leave no trace"

I'd love to clean up the trail and campground "trash", but unfortunately the law kinda gets in the way. :infantry::rasta::notsure:.
That said, my family and I do clean up debris others have left behind. I appreciate all of you others that do the same!:hattip:

Could be another side to that one. I’ve left such bombs on the side of a trail and picked them up on the return trip. And yes, I do pick them up. The poop doesn’t seem to enjoy the destination if I take it along anyway.

Fair enough. We see it a lot on a trail near where we live that's a loop, though.

Around where I live, a big problem is people dumping large quantities of garbage off of forest service roads. Large appliances, loads of construction waste, old RV’s burnt or otherwise, a fibreglass boat hull about 20’ long… It’s disgusting.

I’ll pick up what I can of other people’s garbage, but some of this is industrial scale, and not much a guy on a quad or in a 1/2 ton pickup can do. If I ever catch someone in the act they may end up picking up more than their share.

Reporting it is a waste of time.

What really irks me, it that some of these, like appliances, are free to recycle at the landfill. And even the tipping fees are for other things is less than the fuel cost to haul the crap all the way out to where they are dumping. That said, I firmly believe there should be no tipping fees, period.

It comes down to a sense of belonging and ownership. We have raised an entire generation in school teaching how awful their country is and then made it next to impossible for young people to every own property and feel like a piece of the pie is theirs.

Litter is one thing. Dumping a pickup bed load of trash (often others trash they got paid to haul and were too cheap to pay the dumping fees on at a landfill or too cheap to pay for fuel to drive to the proper disposal site which is further away) is another level matter.

Litter on roadways seems to be much worse in the South - just an accepted thing down here. I’m not big on eating in my car to start - and that seems to be the number one source of it - drive through food. Never will understand why they can’t just carry it to their destination and then put it in the damn trash.

Dumping truck loads of trash I dealt with all the time back at the farm. We are a fairly small and rural area - people dumping side roads happens all the time. Usually didn’t take long to find the culprits. More than once found a load of crap dumped on us - would either set up a trail camera or just look for mail in the trash - trace it down and 80% of the time it was “Yea - I started paying such and such $10 a month to haul my trash” - pay Mr low budget disposal a visit and let them know they had 24 hours to clean the place up spotless or we notify the sheriff and provide video - most of these guys were repeat offenders and knew sheriff wouldn’t go lightly so they complied.

Absolute worst though are those trashing up trails - that seems to be a western thing. I mean we get them everywhere - but just seems to occur more in the western US. Never understood how people can appreciate nature so much - but then be so selfish to ruin it for the next visitor. They deserve every bit of the shit they get from others for their actions.

Just a bunch of disrespectful people live in this country. They don’t give a rip. My subdivision does an adopt a highway litter cleanup on the 1 mile road that leads to the subdivision. 60-70 bags of trash every six months. Within a couple weeks looks the same. Who the hell throw mattresses on the side of a main highway? The Walmart’s around here are on another level too.looks like no one cleans them up… ever.

When you mentioned Wal-Mart, it brought back a memory. Back in about 1996, we were on vacation in Florida and needed some supplies. So, here we are driving through Orlando and see a Kmart. Pull in and OMG!! It was like being at a landfill, unbelievable! I literally had to kick trash out of the way to walk to the door and back. An experience more memorable than most of our trip. Just never saw anything like that in my life at any established place of business. So, yeah I can easily imagine what you described.

One of the Walmarts here in Nashville had a whole crew of dilapidated campers squatting in the parking lot. There was trash everywhere, overturned shopping carts, cars on jackstands. It was like that for several months before someone finally made them leave and cleaned it up.

Just had to do that today. Whole styrofoam container of cooked broccoli. It was right next to my back door where I load groceries. I had to kick it away. I guess it did not taste good.
