i've upgraded most of the usual suspects (wheels+tires, lift, lighting) and have no plans to change my exhaust. The droning at highway speed on the way to the lake multiple times a year isn't worth the hassle to me.

Perfect description - "took resonance feedback away...."

Never realized it was there until it was gone.

I agree. I was going to mention that, but I figured it was placebo, but it does seem more responsive as well as more refined.

when i swapped my DD 8” for a 12” during the wait period i ran stock with the resonator and it was great. Like u said quiet and smooth. I keep going back and forth about leaving my 12” on cuz i do like the sound at times (at times wanting even louder), but then on long trips i prefer the quietness

I went 8 then 12 now back to stock w resonater. Sticking w stock. Towing the boat for hours at a time gets old w extra exhaust noise. I've learned that I can deal w too quiet but can't handle too loud. Also getting sick of crawling under the truck to swap exhaust. An expensive keep it stock lesson.

I did the same thing. Also added some door panel deadening. Nice smooth drone free ride but the motor sure is loud when under throttle to let you know a beast is still under the hood.

Plus removing the stock exhausts weight savings, the r2d2 sized muffler and pipes weigh 45lbs when I weighed mine. I get why the stock exhaust is so quiet but for me it was just silly to hear the intake more than the exhaust driving around.

I have the 8” DD exhaust, and added the Toyota black tip. I don’t like single outlet exhausts but from all my research it provides the most power, so I’ll live with it. Even if I could just get a dual outlet tip I’d be happy with that. All of my vehicles have had aftermarket cat back exhausts asap after purchase, because race car.

What did you use to for the sound deadening? How long did it take you, roughly.

    I’ve gone from stock => TRD => Stock + Resonator => 14” DD => stock again.

In the end, stock is more practical for what I’m wanting - although I miss the throatiness of the DD system when I wanted it a little louder.

I used the Siless brand from Amazon, spent just over $100 for everything. Cheap, but labor intensive. Hopefully the foam doesn't disintegrate after 10 years.

    Doors ~2 hours each (x4).
80 mil butyl sound deadening. 1 layer on the outer door panel and 1 layer on inner door panel.
157 mil foam insulation. 1 layer on inner door panel after butyl layer, plus one layer on the outer door panel behind each speaker.

Back wall and floor under rear seats ~4 hours
80 mil butyl sound deadening, then 314 mil foam insulation.

I left the vapor barrier in place and managed to install all the sound deadening on the outer door panel through the door speaker opening. I hear almost no exhaust noise in the cab, it's 90% intake and engine noise through the dash. Extremely quiet for a V8 truck and it makes a huge difference on sound system quality with the doors deadened/insulated.

I'm debating dropping the header liner and doing the roof to try to get rid of some wind noise (which is the loudest part of the truck now), but I'm getting lazy as the years go by with putting so much work into my trucks. I haven't felt the need to do the whole floor since my tires are so quiet. I completely stripped the interior of a 2014 FJ Cruiser a few years back and did everything and this truck is already much quieter than that one.

There are several good threads on the site with a lot more help than I can offer.
