thats actually DRL, and since I had one pair of the fogs wired to OEM, whenever the OEM fog is on, it dims the DRL lol

    Thanks for sharing,
The lights you are comparing in this video seem to be for two different uses. The Baja Designs Squadron Sports will have limited top/bottom cutoffs due to their general purpose being for off-roading while the Diode Dynamics light is an SAE-rated light so its standard includes sharper cutoffs and less glare for road usage. Baja Designs also offers an SAE-compliant light that will have more tuned-in cutoffs and less glare. Here is the link to that for anyone interested in that light.

Thanks Brandon, as I have mentioned in the description of the video, also from our earlier conversation, Squadron SAE lens has the same beam pattern as the wide cornering and is just a darker/dimmer version, is that correct? if that is the case, I assume the glare/spill is still going to be there but would be dimmed down in general as you have mentioned correct? to me that is still not the same with a clear crisp cutoff for on-road usage, that was the main reason I picked the sport instead of sae, I wanted the maximum brightness for my off-road usage. But I know that Baja designs is coming out with the new SAE lens, do you think they will be able to ordered separately and compatible so I can swap them on my squadron sport or even pro? Thank you for the info.

The Squadron SAE (in current form) has that black upper/lower insert which acts as somewhat of an upward limiter which they offered after some backlash around the light bleed above what should be the cutoff when the squadron SAEs first came out. Still not a great SAE light, but much better than the squad sport. I am looking forward to see what they can do with the new squadron SAEs that have been teased though as I am relatively certain it will be a SIGNIFICANT improvement to the current offering.

Unfortunately, your comparo is kind of a apples to airplanes comparison in terms of the intended light output profiles, but standardization of mounting locations and camera settings goes a LONG way in terms of helping the consumer determine which products are best for their needs so I still give it a  from the Hotshot Offroad camp.

Thanks for the input there, regarding the lens spec I will take your expertise for it since you are a verified vendor here and I trust this forum.
I'd still say the comparison is closer than apples to airplanes (and I would not see the clear difference until I did this "controlled" comparison) haha, my take away from this is, it is really about what people need from the lights, as of right now, I do believe Diode's fog pattern is the better one for on-road usage, and baja's squadron sport is a better bang for the bucks, I remembered the diode being cheaper than baja but since I looked up the recent price for both, holy cow, Diode (pro) is actually more expensive than baja (sport) given the similar output imo.

I also can't wait to see Baja's take on the improved SAE lens.

So the Current Squadron SAE will utilize the same lens pattern as the wide corner Squadron but it has an included lens insert to restrict the light being illuminated resulting in a sharper cutoff. Also, it has a completely different circuit board as well as reflectors. For an intended off-road us the squadron sport will offer more light over the SAE but in the parameters that you are comparing it to, there will be a noticeable difference over an SAE light. We are coming out with a new SAE light that is a complete change from the ground up that will improve every aspect of the current SAE light we sell. This is still a very helpful video but for the consumers viewing it I would like them to be informed about these key differences.

    Brandon

I mean yes...DD is SAE patterned where BD SS is not...BD's revised SAE was IMHO an attempt to meet requirements and had negative consequences on overall useable output...Their new iteration might change this...

Thanks for pointing it out Brandon.
Would the new sae lens be able to be used with the older sport and pro squadrons?

To better understand the design goals that manufacturers must comply with. find a copy of the most recent SAE J583 and digest that.

It's all good, and I can come off my statement a tad and say that they're not QUITE apples to airplanes. Maybe granny smith and red delicious . The DD SS3 Pro is actually the "softest" output that the DD SS3 family of products makes due to the physically larger LED chip behind the same TIR optics that are very sharp in the Sport/Max output levels. What that means is that the upward gradient from the hotspot is a little fuzzier than the others which I was able to see in your video. As a result the SS3 Pro's output profile is going to be closer to a BD Squadron output anyway!

The SAE parameters don't come from the lens itself but are contained within the entirety of the light. This being said, the new lens on our Squadron SAE will contain the same style as our previous Squadron series but will be stamped with the proper SAE Details. Hope this helps clear up some questions you may have.
    Best,
    Brandon

    Thanks for posting @king.cong.1119

While I appreciate the vast illumination the BD provide, I think for my application (and because the OEM LED Pro head lights are so incredibly capable), the DD are going to be my choice for "fogs"
