What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Pretty easy because - no rust and I pulled it once before. Took an hour. I only did the bad one, passenger side #2 (the one right behind the front tire), but you have to unbolt all three on that side to raise the body. Mine was causing noise - hitting the stop washer when the body was moving away from the frame and hitting the slider mount bars when the body was moving toward the frame. I gained 1/4" body lift by replacing it. I'll do the driver side soon and gain 1/8" - but that side isn't making noise yet.

 

Stretch came close to maxing out my adjustment. Might need to replace the baby 9” with a baby 8”…

 

Those limit straps require welding on the top mount? Thinking I should probably invest in some to stop my spindles from contacting coils at full droop when jacking up to do rotations, brakes what have you..

 

Yes, welded. The rears I'll have to weld tops and bottoms, these LCAs just had a mount hole I could use. I'm not aware of any other options, but this is my first set. I will say Dirt King has a very nice hardware and the good side of the cost line.

it helped, but I also plan on running pipes all the way past the bumper, dumped life ain’t for me.
Thankfully I don’t drive on the freeway a lot, but going beneath underpasses I get a crazy reverb if I’m in the sweet spot of the drone, it’s super weird

 

Honestly the best back pressure I felt was when I put the cats in for emissions testing. I think extending the pipes will get me about the same place

Drove the V6 to work tonight. It needs love. It's all squirrely on the road. I think the alignment is out of wack. That little 3.4L sounds healthy though. I still need to do the timing belt on it, and valve covers.

I'll need another tent of pain.

I'm not home yet, but 360,227 on the odometer right now.

 

I will look at the dash on mine and see 175k then hear stories like yours and others pushing 300k plus and know there is ton of life left in my truck. It’s awesome

 

I can’t keep track of all of your truck shenanigans but if any of your rack, lca, uca bushings or ball joints are shot, your alignment won’t hold and everything will walk out. I’m sure you’ve addressed most if not all of those but just a thought.

 

Yeah I think so too, until @shifty`put's up a pic of his 76k or whatever he's got. The PO used it as a DD, but worked 5 miles from home. He bought it 2 years old with 40k on it, then had it for 18 years and only put 95k on it.

Well, that trucks a V6, but Crackie also has around 300K miles. He's a V8.

I went through the front end 2 years ago. Put in Napa lower control arms, and SPC upper control arms. Been awhile since I took it for an alignment though.

Anyways, it started acting all squirrely and shit after I changed the steering rack bushings to poly. That's why I bought a new steering rack for crackie. The plan was to put crackies old steering rack on the V6.

 

Who wants to make bets on what problems I’ll encounter taking my ‘02 1000 miles north next week?

But, it’s been sitting for most of the last 18 months and it’s now heavily modded. And this will be a rather significant journey.

Hopefully fuel economy won’t be too terrible but without the bigger tires I’m assuming the odometer will read low?

U bolts are the #1 potential problem? Assuming I fix headlights on Sunday.

I'm completely out of the loop. Who is Jason? I just assumed you were working on it. 18 months is a long time for a tank of gas. Did you put any fuel stabilizer in it?

 

Nope, definitely a concern there.

Jason is the local mechanic who did all the hard stuff. Best friend ever. I didn’t have space to work on it before and I don’t even now but I’m working on trying to carve out room for a shop on the side of the new house.

 

If anything, the steering should've firmed up and you'd start feeling every bump with poly bushings. You sure you reinstalled the rack right, torqued to spec?

 

Can you have him start it and see how it runs before you fly down for your journey? It might be ok but it would be cool if he blew out the cobwebs.

 

He has been starting it periodically. Says it starts up just fine.

best to top it off immediately upon receipt? Or better to burn through most of the tank before filling?

 

I don't really have any experience with old gas but I imagine a can of Seafoam might help.

Thanks for the question, Kenneth. No, Sea Foam Motor Treatment will not restore the fuel. Once gasoline is degraded, a fuel additive isn’t able to bring it back.

 

If he's been starting it and says it's fine I wouldn't sweat it. One thing I just thought of, check the spare to make sure it has air in case you need it. Stinks that you can't really fly down there with a lot of tools.

 

Yeah, I figure I'll air up before starting the big drive. Spare is in the bed so easy to get to. I was trying to figure out my plans for securing it but it'll be sandwiched pretty well for this part of the trip.
