Calling all HYBRID owners… let’s talk storage

For what it’s worth the top of the drawer system has a 2000lb distributed payload, and you can add tie down cleats to it on an accessory rail. So other than a higher lift to the new bed height, and the possible need to tie larger objects down, you don’t lose the bed. In fact you end up making the bed wider like a Australian style tray back because the drawer system top is just over the wheel wells.

As for “needing” that much storage I don’t either on a daily basis. That said I would use them like long shallow trunks. Everything from groceries that fit when outside temperatures allow, to using the watertight accessory boxes as luggage. I really only have a few must have tools and most of those could go in the vertically accessed wells or behind the rear seat. Ratchet straps in the top access boxes in the corners. Store a non marring dead blow hammer behind the seat with other tire change tools. Put a first aid kit in the small accessory box Decked offers along with road flares and other stuff you might want on an accident scene. Cram tow straps in another corner bucket.

 

Cargo straps, minimal tools, small air compressor, forst aid kit are all behind the back seat.

 

Ya that makes a lot of sense! I’m a study’er and really think things through… so I’m going with the simple and easiest solution for now to see how that works out day to day.

 

I went with Tonneau Buddy, bought with the waterproof cover and it works in terms of storing essentials ( cables etc), groceries etc.

 

I wondered if the Tonneau Buddy was any good!

I've been doing some searching since my last post and it turns out Pelican has some vehicle cargo cases that can be mounted to the bed rails also.

Looks like if you have a tonneau cover one might be limited to the BX50 / BX80 for side storage, or the BX135 / BX255 for cross bed storage. Not having a tonneau cover opens up a few more options for saddle style cases.

Does anyone have experience with those options?

 

Actually it works very well for me .Has enough storage for my daily use, fits snug width wise and I didnt even have to tie it down, doesnt slide around.

I've got another idea brewing but it would require something like this to be compatible with the 3rd Gen Tundra. Are there any Rigo Fabrication employees on this forum that could confirm if this is compatible with the bed rail system for 2022's or are making a version of it for the 2022's?

 

Likely the main reason I’m not interested in a hybrid, I’ve suffered through two gen 2.5s with basically zero under seat storage my 2022 Under seat storage is a pleasant upgrade from the 2.5.

Here is what I did. It isn’t perfect but it is pretty good for $130.00 Total.

 

How are these attached? I’m assuming they attach to the rails somehow?

 

I put the sticker on the tonneau so you can see the manufacturer. I am not affiliated. Just wanted to give people a potential option. I loosened the front track slid the lip of the bin inside the track and the bed and then tightened 3 track screws. I left the other 3 out. It is plenty tight and I dont ever use that track. It is a little tight to get things in and out but not too bad and for what I put in there it is perfect. Let me know if you have any questions

I also went with DECKED drawers for my 22 TRD Pro. It’s a great product with nearly all components manufactured in the US with US workers (if that matters to you).

My configuration is a TRD Pro (so 5.5ft bed) with factory tonneau cover.

A few things I discovered, that you may want to know:

• You will still have full access to your 120v plug in the bed (if equipped). The decked system is about 12” high in the bed.
• I found all dimensions to be accurate with my factory spray-in liner.
• If you have a drop in liner or bed mat that will need to come out.
• The factory tie-downs on the cab side need to be replaced with the set included with your drawers. Take a pair of pliers and grab the OEM bolts and gently twist… the spray-on liner will come right off the bolts and you can easily make the switch with the aftermarket plate. Make sure the material comes out of the inside of the bolt.
• If you or anyone you haul wants to bring a suitcase over 8” or so deep, it will NOT fit under the factory tonneau with the DECKED system in place UNLESS it is the butterfly style that you can open and lay flat. I tested that with a very large 26” hard side rolling bag.
• My measurements show about 9” of clearance between the top of the drawers and bottom of the tonneau ‘ribs.’
• The ‘ammo cans’ in the DECKED system are great for things like hitch balls and straps but they are NOT weatherproof so make sure you drill drain holes and check them occasionally.

I ordered the T-Tracks for the DECKED as well, my plan is to mount my Thule Bigmouth bike carrier on one side and when I need to transport my bike I can do that with the cover folded up. Have not installed nor measured yet, but will report back.

My desired configuration is some kind of cab (like the Smartcab) or rack (like the Leitner Forged ACS) but I’m going to go through our winter first and then build out further in the spring.

 

Just here for the ideas. I’ve got a 22 pro without enough storage.
