Went to pick up some Toyota 103 FIPG sealant for another project I am working on. When I left I drove through the parking lot and noticed about 10-11 new tundras. I know that my dealer, the one I went to, has been sending me the same truck emails for about 2 months now. Are your dealers the same? Wonder if they will finally start negotiating on prices?

Not in my area, no deals other than some finance stuff. Still think MSRP is best deal folks are paying right now.

None here. Drove thru the lot and saw 3 new and then noticed they all had "sold" in the window. They had several 2022 "used" (as in 100 -300 miles) TRD Pros and a Capstone around $99000+

I know one of these dealers is going aggressive on pricing. Especially anything that sits on the lot for more than a few days which is starting to happen more and more.

Elgin Toyota and Chicago Northside Toyota will sell at Costco pricing. If they have what you want, this is the way to buy a new Tundra. They didn’t have what I wanted but about 1600 over “invoice” is what they quoted me. If you call Costco auto program they will tell you what dealers will honor their pricing. You have to be a member at Costco and you have to go into the dealership to get the Costco price. They have a specific written quote the dealer has to give you when you are sitting in front of them per their contract with Costco.

I haven't been to my local dealer in Temecula, CA in a while. I have to head down there in the morning to help my son with a trade-in (his first car, just want to make sure he doesn't get ripped off).

So... I'll find out tomorrow how things look, and if there's a deal I can't refuse on a new/newer Tundra.

From what I saw at my dealer, it's happening. Dealer were handing out vaseline with every vehicle purchase. Now it's time to give it back. This is one reason I didn't jump on the new gen, it eventually was going to happen.

Just bought 2.5 weeks ago from dealer 100 miles from house. Advertised price was $4500 under list for a loaded TRD Sport in a popular color less than week off truck. They had 4-5 other units on the lot. Given until 30-45 days ago there was zip on lots except d cabs or stripper units yes sales in October were soft

    Yup.

The used car market will implode first. Carvana is about to go tits up, and the market will be flooded with their shitty inventory. Figure something around 100,000 pre owned vehicles suddenly hitting the market at liquidation prices.

It is going to be glorious. I hope the correction drags under a whole bunch of shitbag dealerships.

You'd think!!! But, based on a bunch of other "topics" we are seeing and how people are handling them, I'd venture to your last statement is more than likely what will happen...

Unfortunately that won't happen. Just like people didn't stand up to dealers and tell them to piss off when selling at or above MSRP. Manipulation is a powerful thing and people gave in and bought with out having a need to do so. Housing market was the same, people buying for no reason other than to just say they bought an expensive house. Now realtors are also suffering because they sold houses at a premium and shits about to hit the fan. Nothing good comes out of a inflated market for the regular working people.

I have no reason to be mad at my local dealership. They do not do markups. Of course that also means they have had zero inventory.

I have seen some sales folk advertise on FB the same trucks for over a month. There are some dealers that seem to be overflowing with Tundras that are not selling. Yet I still see some advertising with mark ups.

I understand people not liking the market adjustments, but being angry about it is asinine.

The last couple of years these guys have had next to no inventory to sell. Exactly how were they supposed to stay in business and pay their employees without raising their prices? They basically had two options: raise margins or cut costs.
Really the only place they could cut costs would be through workforce reduction. I’m sure a lot of that happened also, but the ones I know have kept most of their staff and continued to pay the salesmen.
How the hell is it “predatory”? They aren’t creating the situation. They aren’t selling food or utilities. They’re selling luxury items to consenting adults who are willingly paying the markup. Keep in mind that “a lot of money” is a very relative concept.
They went from a model where they had a lot of inventory they could move at low margins to one where they have to make as much as they can on each sale. Now that inventory is improving, they’re drifting away from the adjustments, and are willing to cut or remove them.

MSRP has always been an imaginary baseline. Everyone understood that when it went the other way. Now it’s a sacred number that shouldn’t be tampered with I guess. Nobody is complaining about the inflated trade in values they’re getting. Everything costs more now. Vehicles should be excluded from that?

Like I said, I understand not liking it. Being mad about it is just lazy thinking.

Not everyone is buying a “luxury” vehicle. My son needed a new car because his car finally died. He’s young and out on his own and doesn’t make a lot of money. He wanted a small new car that got good gas mileage and had a warranty that he didn’t have to pay extra for. He wanted a Nissan Sentra and had to pay over MSRP because of the limited
Inventory. On top of all this market adjustment stuff the dealers are adding on a bunch of junk that most people don’t want at WAY overinflated prices like 399 nitrogen, 2k ceramic coating, 399-699 window tint just to name a few..

some people need vehicles to make a living also..

In the context of this forum, a brand new Tundra is almost always a luxury purchase. And yeah, they’re definitely adding a ton of markup to the bs adders. The few dealers who stuck with MSRP were absolutely participating in that part.

No doubt. Again not all the dealers, just some. Everyone needs to remember.. we are the consumer, dealerships need us. It’s YOUR money, take care of it. If you feel like you are being slapped around by the dealership, just move on. Sooner or later the “next guy will buy it” will fade also.

My dealership has 3 new Tundras just sitting here. All at MSRP. I am in service but I have a good friend that's been in car sales since the 80s and at this point he's doing it more to kill time then anything else as he daytrades and dealerships are about to be shitting bricks because more and more inventory is coming in and people are finally opening their eyes to the gouging. He told me they have an average of 5 order cancelations per day. The even have a Rav4 hybrid coming in that isn't spoken for and that car had over a 18 month wait on it at one point.
