A buddy is on a contract job and in trouble. Any ideas on how to fix this??

Stuck in 4 wheel Lo that is. For real guys, one of our 200 Series up-armored Land Cruisers is stuck in 4 wheel Lo, with the light flashing. As we are on a remote base, we sometimes have to repair our on vehicles and any help would be great.
2018 Toyota Land Cruiser, with 5.7 D4 Diesel, and auto trans. The 4 wheel light and icon is flashing. In our basic tool kit we have pretty decent scanner and these are the codes ,
P17D0 , Center Diff lock control switch circuit
What we have done so far,
    cleared codes, come right back
disconnected both batteries for 30 minutes
replaced actuator on rear on transfer case
    Checked all fuses

If you've replaced the transfer case actuator, it sounds like it might be a timing issue with the actuator on the shaft that goes into the case.

I read a post here in the last week or so where someone was having 4wd hang up like this. Poster found that when he turned switch to 2wd while truck running, he would then shut off the truck and restart it, after a couple restarts it would pop out of 4wd. Not a fix but worth a try I think, could get you out of trouble and driving normally until you can dig in more and see what is happening.

Yeah, sometimes they can get stuck in 4Lo... when mine does this (or won't go into 4Lo), I
    1. Shift to neutral
    2. shift into 4lo (or out of)
    3. 4lo light blinks and beeps (no shift)
    4. still in neutral, turn truck off and on
    5. right after truck starts up you'll hear transfer case clunk out of 4lo (still in neutral)
