Has anyone been able to find a good vinyl color match to use for a wrap yet?

 

I hear some Nature Narrator saying “Here we have a beautiful specimen in its natural environment. Notice how the green blends fluidly with the foliage and shadows. Here it lies and waits for…”

 

I thought I'd add this for variation. I bought some chrome end caps cheap , stripped the chrome, and this weekend I got around to painting them. I also had some black textured mirror caps I did at the same time. I do have the TRD pro grill and bulge I got from that April sale, but currently deciding if I want my Limited to swap in, or just go TRD pro. Anyway, here it is. Limited with color matched mirror caps, and bumper end caps. Just factory grill.

I actually like a bit of chrome on the AG trucks. I think yours is about perfect in this pic. Good contrast without being over chromed.

Currently going this same route, I bought a TRD pro grille surround and hood bulge, popped the center Pro grille off and put the limited grille back on. I just picked up some extra chrome end caps from a member here to paint match. What process did you do for prepping the chrome?

I picked up some epoxy primer seems to be the key component for painting over chrome parts

 

For the chrome end caps, I did a deep and thorough rough up job. I was certain 2k primer was going to stick...but wanted to test first because chrome is so hard. I primed it, let it set properly, and took a scraper, and to my surprise...it could easily be removed...So then I stripped it again, past the silver, so you could see brown (copper) and no more chrome, and even past. And for that, I used a high speed wheel, with a paint and rust stripper attachment, plus sand blaster for edges. I primed it, again, 2k, let it set properly and took a scraper, and was golden. was stuck on like new clean metal with primer. Then I touched my scrapings up, and proceded to paint.

Thats my experience with this. I've dabbled with chrome over the years, and anything in front that can be chipped, will easiler knock the paint off if chrome. I didn't use epoxy, and Im sure it will stick better on chrome, but it's harder, and will chip the same, in my opinion. So I suggest, just strip it, or get plastic.

 

Thanks for the tips. This is why picked up an extra set of caps given they are chrome and harder to deal with but I couldn’t find a decent deal on used plastic ones.

 

Here is an updated picture of the same route. I'm a fan of it. I may one day throw the TOYOTA honeycomb in the chrome and put it on, just...no reason but variation I guess, because I have it.

 

Looks great! Once I do the bumper caps I plan on adding some clear matte vinyl over the door handles to tone down the shiny chrome and “sort of” match the brushed aluminum look of the limited grille.

The Toyota honeycomb on the chrome surround actually looks pretty decent I mocked it up on the truck before I store it away.

 

where did you pick up the paint?

 

I got mine at advance auto parts, 40 bucks for the pint (ouch). Some store dont do paint mixing though, this one does. Napa auto stores mix paint as well.

 

Added a little red Georgia dirt to the AG...good contrast!

Just installed the eibach pro truck stage 2 with the remote reservoir on the rear and RAS. Now on the hunt for 295’s and still debating on sticking with the stock+ look or getting new wheels as well.

 

Coming up on two years and still enjoying the carp out of this truck!

 

Mine is holding up surprisingly well. I am starting to notice very slight swirl marks but I really have to be looking for them and just at the right angle with the sun. I had mine ceramic coated at the dealership when it was brand new, didn’t know what to expect from a dealers ceramic coating as this the first vehicle I’ve ever had ceramic coated but it’s holding up fairly decent I suppose. I never EVER run my cars through the car washes. I am very particular in how I wash them and I use car wash soap that won’t degrade the ceramic coating.

2021 sr5 trail edition. Stock besides the cap, visors, and tint. Couple modsamonth and we’ll see how she turns out.
