I thought I was settled on Boss 2.5 COs and JBA HD UCAs. I called a shop asking about install and all that fun stuff. They eventually mentioned ICON and how they’re doing a 15% sale on most parts. The dude recommended 2.5 Coilovers and the tubular Icon UCA. It’ll be within $100-200 compared to the Boss and JBA. The Boss and JBA would be cheaper, but they’re charging me $1,000 in labor for those specific parts:frusty:. Is Icon worth it, or are they overhyped? I’ve seen a lot of extreme mixed reviews on them.

Off-roading capability isn’t really a factor. I’d get nowhere near the max capability of either of them.

Icon is solid but not on par with king or elka. Close but their internals are a little outdated and their box tunes are generally not great but that's reality when you don't tune to specific needs and run the same valving for every truck.
I'd still take them over the Boss though.

Have read here and elsewhere about Icon shocks leaking. I am sure it is here on Tundras, was not a small issue so there were lots of info/issues in the thread about them.

So I have heard of some issues with icon, shocks leaking, issues with the leafs (sag, noise) and customer services issues. I have not seen any posts about toytec boss product or service issues.

If I recall correctly, I’ve been told that the Boss Toytec Aluma series COs are built/owned by Elka. I’ve seen a lot of stuff about Icon shocks leaking, as well as their Delta UCAs squeaking a LOT. Only reason I’m considering them is because “Icon”. Those 4 letters. Probably have just been overhyped to the max. I’ve also been told that their customer service is absolute shit.

Any specific reason why you’d still take Icon over Boss?

Nothing beyond ease of rebuild. Icon is easy to secure rebuild kits for and most shops can secure the parts. Boss and elka are a little tighter with their kits and only authorized personnel have easy access.
That's why I'd go icon for mid level or elka for Supreme. Elkas vehicle and use specific tuning makes such a difference that for me, it's worth the more difficult rebuild scheduling. King is a solid middle ground. Easy to rebuild but not tuned from king to you as an individual (though most reputable shops can slap in a custom tune)

Not all shops will work on icon. King/fox is far more universal. If you’re comparing icon and boss, im guessing your offroading style doesnt need icons

why are they charging you labor for boss but not icon?

As of now I think I’m just gonna go with Boss 2.5 and JBA. I’ve seen (read) a lot more issues pertaining to Icon. It might be just because they are a bigger brand, but whatever. I talked to another shop, and they don’t recommend any of these. They told me SPC UCA and RC Vertex COs are the best. Guess what? They carry both of them in stock and mark them up. Go figure. If I see anything that absolutely kills my view on Boss and JBA, then I’ll reconsider. Thanks for the input.

They are charging labor for the Icon, but they’re just charging more for the boss/jba. Their reasoning, because a lot of people don’t get the correct parts. So since that’s happened in the past, they are charging extra in labor no matter what. Even if everything’s there…
My off-roading style doesn’t even warrant the Boss 2.5s lol. Just getting them because I’ve seen great reviews, and the fact that they match the color of the UCA.

I wouldn’t use this shop with a bizzare answer like that

a grown up would order the parts to their shop and check parts before tearing the truck apart

How does the price of boss compare to eibach 2.0’s? A guy on here said the eibachs rode soft, like a street shock

If you’re wheeling, Icon all the way. Just don’t get the tubular UCAs.

The Boss 2.0 is $1,100, Boss 2.5 is $1,400, and the Eibach 2.0 is $620 (I’m pretty sure). Through the month of November, Toytec is doing a 15% off sale in Boss Aluma series too. (10% off something else, but it didn’t pertain to me so I didn’t listen). I saw that post too. He was talking about how it was softer than stock, but he’s upgrading to Boss due to the Eibach being at their limit on road.
