I was looking at a 2006 tundra double cab. The frame looks rusted and I was wondering if anyone has had any success repairing this damage?

Can’t say unless we have pics to see of the carnage. A lot of what we see on here lately is just surface rust.

There has been success repairing frames, yes. It really depends on where the rust is, or how bad it is.

If you can, please post up some pictures of your potential frame.

If you look at this truck again, take a flashlight, and a hammer. Smack the frame in a few different places, and see how soft the metal is. Rusty, shitty metal will have a dull thud, and not really sound like metal. That classic ding/ping

If it's bad enough you need to ask strangers here, NO. Limited parts available to fix. Run.

Now that you mention it @N84434, did you happen to make a drawing or sketch of the frame reinforcements you fabricated?

Some photos, the truck has an immaculate cab, engine, and bed so it has a great deal of potential. The read springs bracket is rusted through and broken on both sides. That is my biggest concern along with the front frame and cross member.

Oh hell naw. That's even worse than I pictured. There's no bringing that back to life.

Ultimately, that looks/sounds like a cab donor / parts donor truck.

EDIT: 3rd pic is most concerning to me. Not only is it rusting and flaking, but it looks like the frame was coated, possibly as part of the frame recall. If that's true, good luck getting Toyota to slap a new frame on it under the recall!

If this was going for $1k-2k, and you were confident you could find a donor frame, may be worth it. Otherwise, I'd nope out.

Depending on the price someone is either trying to get the best of someone or they just want to sell it for parts. It only takes one guy to not look at the frame and the owner comes out with a bunch of money while the new owners break it in half.

Sorry, no... I used a piece of cardboard and cut it to match the radius and fit inside the frame. Added roughly 10 inches to the total length (5 on each side of the original length) traced it out on sheet stock and started cutting it out.

And, yeah, after looking at those pictures, I respectfully recall my earlier statement....

I'm afraid this one is beyond saving.
