5.7L v8 vs Twin Turbo 3.4L v6

Which implementation do you like better and why?

I have not test driven a Toyota’s 3.4 but I have test drove 3.5 ecoboost. I think i still prefer 5.7 v8. It’s also what I always wanted. Wanted a v8 my whole life. But these new v6 turbo charged are really fast!

However, I remember driving my dad’s Frontier with the turbo diesel engine, and that thing was sweet!!!

Likewise for whatever reason when I drove Ford’s 2.7 twin turbo tuned, felt really really good.

Maybe if the 3.5 was tuned on the Ford, would’ve liked it better.

Anyway between 5.7 vs 3.4 from Toyota, which one do you prefer?

I came from a 2020 to a 2022.
I would give anything to have the 5.7 and 6spd again. So simple, so beefy. The new engine is a liability in my opinion.
There was something so honest and pure about the 5.7

 

Doesn’t really matter anymore if and when you get a new truck for 2022 and beyond, it’s 3.4 TT or nothing

I thought it was well done between making that much more torque at 2,400 rpm and also the 10- speed seemed spot on

so I’m going to go ahead and get a new tundra platinum when they find exactly what I want.

I voted for. 6.2 iforce V8 but Toyota didn’t listen

 

you don’t have to give “anything” just go buy a 2007-2021 model, ha!

I kinda meant having the 5.7 in the 3rd gen. There's a lot I like about my '22, but all the stuff I hate is the overly complicated, techy nonsense that my '20 just didn't have.

 

Ya I know, but it’s over, it’s not going to happen, so it’s either older model with 5.7 or new model with 3.4 tt.

Bummer to only have 1 engine option

 

I mean, I think it is still a possibility that they will come out with v8 but unlikely.

 

I have a 5.7 in my Tundra and a 2.7TT in my work F150. I like both motors, what I'd really like is a 10 speed behind my 5.7L...

I have alway liked the tundra except for fuel mileage . When Toyota came out with tt3.5 hybrid I bit . I love the engine torque and power is fabulous it run 80-90 like the older trucks do at 70 . Turbos and smaller displacement is the cuter for 1/2 tons . If you want v8 or diesel better be looking at 3/4 ton

 

Supercharged 5.7 FTW

 

I’m sure the driving experience with the 3.4TT is fun. And all the torque down low is pretty awesome. My opinion is, its outlook for long term dependability (the only reason I own a Tundra) is favorable but currently unknown.

I’m a 5.7 guy. Given the choice, I’d still buy a 5.7 truck. Not for the sound. Not for the power, as I understand it’s outmatched stock vs stock. But it is more than enough for what my truck is rated for, and it is PROVEN. My truck is paid off, and I’m happy to feed it all it needs to keep taking me all the places I want to go, whether I’m towing or not, every single time I want to go. I expect to continue to put high miles on it and maintain it and have no issues for a very long time. If I needed to tow more than 8k lbs, I’d be in an HD truck.

Something else about the 5.7: it just feels extremely solid. Very confidence inspiring, though I understand the numbers are bested by other v8s in the segment. Speaking of torque down low, the 5.7 is no slouch: I read in an LX570 brochure that the 5.7L makes 90% of its max torque (401 ft-lbs) at 2200 rpm. That’s downright awesome for a NA v8, especially one designed in 2006.

 

good post, exactly why I was hoping for my solution to the next gen which was , punch that bitch out to 6.2 , and give me 15 city, 17 mixed , 19 Highway with the 10- speed behind it

best gm 6.2 output and at least offer that as an option and have the v6 tt for the guys who want that and then have a bullet proof standard v6 for the base company truck type deal

but alas we got 1 motor, I’m still going to buy it though , Toyota knows boosted engines , it will be fine

 

get a Lexus if you still want the V8

 

I think it probably will be fine, too, although I won’t be buying a new vehicle for the foreseeable future.

 

All the Supercharged tundra people thinking their trucks are fast when a tune only Ecoboost could pull on them.

 

Well, there’s a lot more to enjoying the driving and ownership experience than being the fastest by a couple tenths in a quarter mile. Besides, build the tundra out of some starkist tuna cans like the f150 and give it a 10 speed and any ecoboost advantage is gone. Plus, the rest of the truck will last too!

But they didnt give the 5.7 aluminum or a 10 speed. They gave that to a 3.4L

Compared to? A 5.7 with an $8000 blower?

Everyone puts $8000 blowers on their trucks, right?

 

Its still significantly cheaper to supercharge a 5.7 you already own than to buy a new tundra at these inflated prices, and more reliable too. It’s hard to throw stones at someone who owns their 5.7 and supercharger outright as compared to taking a loan out on a new truck.

and no one’s ever said an eco boost or v6 sounds better than blown v8 lol

 

It demoralizing when you get passed by a weed wacker with half the displacement though
