I should see if they want to buy mine. For what they are gouging they should give me more than I'm likely to get at the MSRP dealer I'm getting my Tacoma through. :monocle:

There is a fair amount of used Tacoma's on their lot FWIW .
6 new Tacoma's just showed up on a truck as well.

4 months ago their lot was bare of Tacoma's.

Basically what @DrZoidberg said. The extremely weird (for Toyota) quality control issues with the 3rd gen (wrong color door panel, only one auto-dimming side mirror, mirrors and emblems falling off while driving, rear axle assemblies not being torqued to spec before leaving the factory) are concerning as well, rare as they may be.

I also suspect that in order to keep making vehicles, automakers have been forced to use parts suppliers they would not have even considered pre-pandemic due to poor durability and/or not meeting tolerance standards.

As a capitalist if you own a business selling something like cars and trucks, if you’re playing the long game your goal is to grow your business and retain customers though. Treating customers well and doing the right thing even when you don’t have to can be a big determining factor in surviving downturns when you need that repeat business.

I worked selling cars and trucks for a few years after I got out of the Marine Corps. The shady dirtbag salesmen who would say anything and do anything weren’t the ones who were successful. In the short term they could move a lot of cars, but word gets out and soon enough their poor ethics also run them afoul of the dealer principal/managing partner etc.

The real pros who move a lot of inventory consistently are the ones who have a giant book of business. There were some old guys in the Lexus store who rarely had time to take a walk in client. They were almost appointment only: referrals, repeat customers, and in their spare time constant follow up and customer relations. They didn’t get there ripping peoples buttholes open, they got there making customers happy and making sure they stayed that way. That takes a lot of effort and focus though, no time for car lot grab ass and shenanigans.

I think the dealerships doing the best are msrp + small 1-2k addendum.

good short term money and not affecting long term relationship

Thanks for clarifying. I agree with you. I was just wondering if I had missed something about their employees taking concessions recently.

So happy I bought my 2020 when I did for $39k out the door. Bought when they were hurting for business.
Will probably be the last new vehicle I ever own unless I win the lotto. The prices for a new one (of any brand) is beyond what I'm willing to pay for what you get. No thanks.
Hopefully I can keep from wrecking it before the 15 year mark.

No no no. It is all about stamp on the side of the truck that can be highlighted in bright stickers (so much for debadging) so all the world knows.

Have to compare both with the same tire model/size/pressure. Wife's TRD PRO Sequoia (FoxPro) is way better than my TRD Offroad (Bilstein 4600) was. Same 32" Michelin LTX2 tires, same pressure, different suspension. So your wife drives a better Toyota then you. Lol.

It's more than just a fox vs billy beans, comparison though. The Sequoia actually has a different rear suspension altogether, doesn't it?

I don’t regret buying a used Tundra a few years ago, but if I had that choice back I would have bought a brand new one.

As it is, I’ll drive this one for a good long while and they probably buy a used 2018-2021.

In some sense, yes. I have no problem with wife driving a better vehicle than I do.

It has about 20% of cargo capacity of my old mid-size station wagon, though. Visually about 0% of Tundra's 6.5 bed capacity ;)

Also cabin compartment in gen 2.5 Tundra is way better organized than in Sequoia. It is a shame Toyota didn't use the same approach in late Sequoia's.

Oh, screw that JBL in Sequoia, too! P.O.S.!

What I fall in love with in Sequoia is a queen size bed with 2nd and 3d row folded down. Whenever/wherever I have to spend 1-1.5 hrs waiting for kids activities, I take her Sequoia, sheep skin, small pillow and a blanket.

We actually bought the Sequoia for our planned future trips to Newfoundland and Labrador wilderness. With five of us and thousands of miles in the middle of nowhere it must be reliable and spacious. Reliability is above all.

Yeah, independent suspension in the rear. I can't say I like it more. It is more cushy, yes, but years ahead you have to deal with ever sagging coil springs and zillion of bushings. I have all the tools for the job, but just thinking of experience with like 30 bushings in old Volvo's rear subframe makes my day sad.

Contrary, Tundra's solid axle and leaf springs is not that bad, partially thanks to C-channel frame in rear that flexes a lot. It is easy and cheap to mod, too. I may add an extra leaf just to keep it level with all the camping gear loaded in. Can easily add air bags, too, which is a problem with coils.
