4x4 dash lights flashing and no 4x4/ force engage works for multiple years

Verified to work on multiple years.
I just bought an 09 SR5 as a donor for my 2013 had the same 4x4 symptoms and the following instructions work on the 09 as well
This was my issue until I was really desperate (35+ degree angle narrow drive with limestone cliffs on either side of my truck backing a flatbed with 8k of concrete). I tried everything including reading it a bedtime story and performing an exorcism, and figured out this.
this and it worked for me. Its the only means by which I engage 4x4 for almost two years, and i plow snow.

• while running switch to 4-hi
• shut the truck off
• remove key
• open door
• put key in ignition and without starting turn on accessories
• you'll hear the transfer case engage within 3-5 seconds
• remove and re-install key without starting and turn accessories on
• you'll hear front diff actuator engage
• now you can start
