Just created a new thread to keep it all in one place and not clog up wdyd 1st gen thread.
Edited for more pics of template

    What y'all think?

Going to round the sharp corners and cut hole for drain plug obviously.
Goal was to ditch the big heavy ass one that came with the lift as I don't off-road and just have a 1 piece design that will keep shit out as a splash guard more or less. For now it'll be 080 aluminum. Aluminum will be free so it's just my time and whatever it costs to bend it at a shop for now.
Probably dream up some sort of design that allows some air through the front that looks halfway cool.

Edited: more photos of the process.

It fits! So far I'm in my time. Plus 21.99 tax and deposit for Busch light. The metal shop I stopped into sent me to the back to the guy that did all the bending. So we chat quick, then he grabs the metal sheet and starts to go to the break...I'm like dude I can come back. You don't have to do it now. He says if I don't do it now what I'm working on. I'll be working on it for a whole day so I'll just get it over with. It takes the dude like maybe 10 minutes to do the bending after understanding what I want. I say" What do I tell the guy at the desk?" He says" It's for personal use right? just go out that door(side door) they come in for work, bring me a case of Busch light."
    Good Friday! Good dude!

    Will update soon

Looks good. Your frame looks great. Is it treated?

Thanks. Not sure what ya mean by "treated". If by Toyota I can't find records on their site. I treat it with grease, fluid film and now trying surface shield. All basically maintenance shit because of living in the Midwest. I'm the 3rd owner and the truck started it's life in Oregon from what I can tell and a short period of time in MO. It's far from perfect but it's not fucked so I try and keep up on it. I pulled the bed earlier this summer to tackle some rust. The treatments are in that some too.
In retrospect I probably should have just put all my doings on a build thread if I'd have known I'd be so active on here. If I could drag and drop them to my personal page easily I would lol.

Definitely needs a design, logo or some cool air holes. Looks too plain.

I could try an iteration of my art work on the https://www.tundras.com/threads/skid-plate-facelift.57299/ and have that fun again!

Taking suggestions on design....seems like eagles and mountains are overdone by companies so prob steer clear of those. It's gonna be bright at times but that's to come after it's all done and made.

Likely use the design for the air holes like it seems most do.

I would do an artwork made of small holes similar to pointillism and then shine LEDs through from the back to make it pop.

    Is that like stipple artwork?
Weird you said leds behind it, I actually thought that'd be cool but I don't want it to be too loud. Kinda like the stupid interior wheel well lights...not my style

Yep, stipple art is just black and white pointillism. Although, this is somewhat different where a design is created from small holes. I know there a specific name for it, but I can’t recall.

Here’s an example of perforated metal art using 2 different hole sizes for 2 levels of gray. There’s also 3 holes for 3 levels of gray on the website below.

    91ECA75F-E63C-4188-B83C-C4B9D41A3854.jpg

    https://www.metalli.co.nz/perforated-metal-wall-art/

Yours would probably just be one sized hole to just show an image without grayscale.

I'd use a thicker gauge of cardboard, and maybe some black paint...

Still waiting on 1/4" to come in apparently it's still on a shipping container out in the ocean somewhere...it won't need paint where I'm going with it. I hear 1/4" cb doesn't soak up paint near as much as 1/8". Just fyi

That looks good, but are you sure the steel isn’t supposed to be structural to support the drop brackets.

Are you asking if the original skid that bolted on to the aftermarket lift was supposed to be a structural component?
God I hope not. They didn't supply it with their kits. I think it was up to whomever installed the lift on their truck to figure it out. I have never personally been under an unmodified tundra. Now I'm curious to if there's even a factory skid between the front and rear cross members that the LCAs mount to.

Copy, I’ve seen some DB kits that have pretty beefy skid plates that tie into the drop brackets.

It ties in sorta, but it's just bolted to the holes in the aftermarket drop brackets. I would think if it was structural on this particular lift that it would come with it and be in the instructions to torque to whatever. I may call and ask them just to be sure because why not?

I’ve got a addicted fab front bumper that I’ll need to accommodate for and add into the design, but you made it seem super easy to mock it up, so that gives me hope I can replicate something similar.

Thick cardboard for rigidity when rock impact, angle finder, awl to find holes( or ky jelly whatever you prefer). Measure multiple damn times! Where are pics of your bumper? This mounts to bottom of radiator support and bottom bracket. Obviously diff if ya don't have the same angle but yeah was that bad.

My rad support went away with the front cross member, I will either tap the 2x4 welded cross member or add tabs on the back side that will hold the plate. 8B21C467-ADCD-4E45-AC07-E6A107A41135.jpg

Yup! Can't help there without being there...it was all trial and error but cardboard is easy. Think I went through 3 different designs before I decided

How well does ABS plastic hold up as a skid plate steel or aluminum alternative? What kind of plastic are the splash guards made out of?

It'll likely be different unless you have the same lift I just thought about that.
It'll be a bit but I can do that. Not sure if it'll be different for yours. I have a 2006 DC just fyi
