I'll stick to antelope. I can pack one of those on my shoulder. Way easier than elk, and not cute like deer.

 

Ah I forget about central, there a lot of folks out there? I tried to avoid the east side and tried southwest, but the elk disappear out there in thin air lol

A lot! I usually hunt muzzleloader season and it's a lot better. My wife has been hunting the past few years with me so I've been stuck on modern, all good though.

 

I just migrated back to a windows machine from a 16” M1 Max (or whatever they call it) Pro.
The Mac was great for syncing with my other apple stuff. It has unfuckingbelievable battery life. It is damn fast (the machine I has was 64GB RAM and a 4TB hard drive). It was my first Mac in 25 years, and there were a lot of things I really loved about it. Running windows 11 in Parallels gave me access to most everything I needed from the windows side.

The issue for me is that the Arm processor is fundamentally not compatible with a few critical pieces of software that I use for work - namely because the chip architecture requires specifically compiled drivers. And the OneDrive integration worked pretty well, but not quite as seamless as I had hoped for (adding in trying to share OneDrive between the Mac and the parallels windows VM and several other computers didn’t help that).

Of course, if you’re already a Mac person, then my hangups won’t be an issue for you. I will say that the 16” macbook pro m1 max was about twice the weight of the similar-speced HP ZBook Studio G9 that I just switched to. But I will always miss the battery life.

I only hunt for wall hangers when I'm confident with a backup animal, usually it's the first legal game I see.

I don't know if there's a production release date, but it's currently downloadable for people in the preview program. Not sure if a Mac can dual boot...

Actually slept in till 6 after getting up at 4:30 all week. Felt pretty good. I’ve been seeing a few spiders around the garage so it’s time to spray today before winter.

 

It’s not dual boot like the old Boot Camp setup. Instead, you run Windows as a Virtual Machine using a program called Parallels. It really worked pretty well, so I was using windows on ARM, and most stuff worked.

But if the software relies on specific hardware level access it requires the drivers for that hardware access to be compiled for ARM. And most are not.
Specific examples:
The Bluebeam PDF printer (which is core to Bluebeam’s print function). In general, Bluebeam has a lot quirks running in an emulated x64 environment but the printer driver not working was a serious problem
The Autodesk Desktop Connector that is used for file explorer-level synching of project files and data on collaboration projects. This software uses a specific driver to operate as an explorer shell extension and it simply will not work in ARM. This crippled the ability to use any of our workflows in our design and detailing software.
Start button replacements and other shell extensions like Stardock Fences and Start11.
Most of the more complex plotter drivers were dog crap
And yes, it’s not specifically a Mac issue - it’s an ARM issue. But the problems were ultimately show stoppers for my line of work
