Being a cheap ass, does anyone have anything bad to say about the Taco Tunes one? I wasn't planning on buying one of these at all, but I can't be trackless for months if these get cut. That is why I just want to go cheap and light.

For anyone like me wondering what the difference was between the hybrid and non-hybrid shields..
I just wondered why one cost more than the other..

I have the taco tunes. No complaints. Only cat shield I ever have but it seems fine for my use as a daily driver.

 

I am leaning in that direction. I was almost ready to pull the trigger on Talon, but free shipping and free security hardware and slightly cheaper starting price, and it is suddenly $100+ cheaper to go with Taco Tunes.

 

I have millercat. I believe they are the official Toyota one. The hybrid adds an additional panel to protect against any reach arounds. Haha

It’s been solid and has recessed 5 lobe locking bolt heads.

 

above you mention skid plate compatibility, do some of the Cat Shields not work with some skid plates ?

Yeah, there seems to be some potential for shields not being compatible with certain items. I listed the compatibility for the ones that list it on their site or that I contacted regarding my own TRD Skid plate.

 

I have the Desert Eagle Offroad cat shield, They are located in Texas.
Shipped super fast and it came with all the hardware.

 

Same. Easy install and no issues. Adding a TRD skid plate this afternoon so will let you know of any issues I run into, if any.

Edit: no issues with TRD skid plate and Taco cat plate. Everything lines up and hardware works with both.

 

If you can find me a link to their website and pricing, I will update my post. I found something on Facebook, but doesn't look like a proper store front.

 

Updated my list with RCI. Their cat shield is only compatible with their own transmission skid plate.

Not sure if they are cheap. The shield seemed sturdy and it was delivered in less than a week. Easy 5 minute install.

 

That looks pretty nice, especially for the price. I guess I found out that this forum has an issue with them - you can't even link to their website - but I am not sure why.

 

I ordered the Talon as well. Got to NC in a couple days. Now I just need my truck to arrive.

It is because of several issues with members buying TT's cheap rebranded Boss audio equipment years ago.
Their customer service was terrible.
Perhaps they've improved over the years.

Their shields look nice for the price.

The only thing I ever bought from them was their speaker adapters..
They do make a nice thick sturdy cut-to-order door speaker adapter..

 

Ah, makes sense. I tried reading trough some history with the owner posting here but I never saw a post about them being black listed. In any scenario, their shield looks nice and there have a few happy customers. Buyer beware I guess.

 

Do you have a link on how to buy it? Do you have to message the dude and send him money somehow?

 

I contacted them via Facebook, they sent me a PayPal invoice, I sent payment and the shield was on my doorstep 3 days later.
Responds very very fast.
Maybe they are not interested in a store front due to the high demand.

I forgot to mention that it is 10gauge steel and that it came with T45 tamper proof hardware.

 

Anybody have any experience with the Catstrap catalytic converter theft prevention? A couple of mechanic friends and a magazine review really like them and they’re relatively inexpensive.

 

I can see using the cat shield as an off-road protection shield but for theft protection? A cut-off tool will slice through a thin sheet of aluminum like butter.
