My transmission hose popped out of the radiator while driving to store .All the fluid leaked out right away .I immediately noticed the transmission slipping and within 1/10 of a mile parked the truck. After having it towed home I bypassed radiator and replaced transmission fluid and filter .Now it starts off from a dead stop ok but when it shifts it skips a gear and of course the engine is bogged down.this is much worse when climbing a grade . Once I can get up too about 45 miles an hour it will downshift and travel at high speeds with no problem.Anyone have a good idea what’s wrong ? Will the transmission most likely have to be pulled and disassembled ?

Are you 100% positive your sealed transmission was properly refilled, at temp, to the correct level, following OEM procedure?

This is the first thing to check. Any symptoms you just mentioned could potentially be caused by fluid too low/high.

Not the right amount of tranny fluid most likely. Did you follow the process necessary to get it up to temp and check the level?

If you used generic cheap parts store ATF you may want to cycle a bunch of the Valvoline maxlife through, as that is Toyota WS rated. I'd say at least 3 gallons.

It's highly unusual for the transmission cooling line to become detached. Had you had work done on your radiator lately?

Yes I used the exact correct Oem fluid from the Toyota dealer and followed the fill procedure to the t. I can only guess that the hose fitting in the radiator must have been tightened up to much ruining the threads and it finally popped out after 17 years

The trans cooler lines coming in and out of the radiator are just black rubber held on with spring clamps. Open up your radiator cap and check to see what the coolant looks like. I'd be inclined to check the condition of the trans fluid too -- I know it's a little more difficult with the sealed trans, but hopefully there's no pink milkshake.
