New member here, I currently drive 2017 tacoma dcsb. Im starting to outgrow the space and powertrain of the tacoma. Has anyone switched from a tacoma to a tundra and regret it?

I would bet at least 40% of the members on this forum have owned a Tacoma and then a Tundra.

I would agree. Some don’t like the size for off-road (which they probably didn’t think the tundra purchase through), some don’t like the fuel economy, and others don’t like to daily a full sized truck in the city.

I assumed so. The gear hunting, V6, and tow capacity is getting old.

I switched in 2017 primarily because I bought a bigger boat. The boat and trailer weigh 5000 lbs with gear and can go higher if I fill the 95 gallon tank. I bought the boat in LA 300 miles from the house. Towed it home at 75 mph with no problems. Even with non operating trailer brakes I had no problems stopping. My main problem was the gas tank in the Tacoma. I had to fill up twice to make it home. The only time I miss the Tacoma is when traveling the ranch roads where I hunt. I had the Baja edition and a beast on the rough roads. I could leave the UTVs in my dust with no problems. I don't think I would ever go back to the Tacoma. I enjoy the space, power, and towing and hauling with the Tundra.

Tacoma was good. Tundra fits life better.

Just spent a month in Europe driving a Ford EcoSport 1.0, six speed (really enjoyed rowing my own gears) and somehow was able to do everything including fit in wife and two kids. Saw bunch of Ford Rangers and compared to the EcoSport that I was driving it made think about Taco and how it’s probably just enough truck for a family of 4. We have a Sienna at home so I am pondering if I should go the Taco route. Would probably love the gas savings and easier parking in the driveway(my wife’s backing out of garage always makes me nervous).
Would miss the Tundra of course and these just might be crazy thoughts that go through my head

Had an early third gen Taco (riddled with the typical issues) for a few years and moved to a tundra. Zero regrets at all.

I had 5 Tacomas before I bought the Tundra. No issues with any of the Tacomas. Love the Tundra. No looking back.

    Question #1 - Yes. Started with '88 pkup -> '98 Taco->'07 Taco->'13 & '21 Tundra's

Question #2 - Regrets on moving up to a Tundra? NOT FOR A SINGLE MINUTE

I'd have two Tundras if I could!

The 2nd gen Tacoma was the best IMHO so the switch was a little hard, but then really no regrets once you hit the torque pedal ;)

I haul 1600 lbs of feed plus gear in mine. I would not do that in the Tacoma

i owned a 1st gen taco (2001 TRD) for 14 years. bought my neighbor's 2017 tundra last month b/c i wanted increased towing capacity for rafting and snowmobiling. no regrets on the switch, other than needing a bigger garage to park it in :eek2:

I love both. Each has it's own purpose for me.

I know everyone is not able to do that or would even need it being redundant, but I would highly assume you would not regret it.

I had two Tacomas, a 2011 and a 2020. Loved both of them. Had to move up to the Tundra for towing and family duties and it performs the role dutifully. I could go back to a Tacoma if I didn't need the Tundra's size, but I definitely have no regrets on moving to a Tundra. I am super happy with it.

I just did this in March. Went from a 2019 Tacoma double cab long bed to a 2020 Tundra Crewmax. Main reason was my daughter grew over a foot in about a year and a half and no longer fit in the back seat of the Tacoma. She was 13 at the time and was 5'10" and all legs so her knees were constantly in the seat in front of her. There were some other things like the constant gear hunting that I hated about the Tacoma so it wasn't a hard decision. I've had two other Tundras as well so I knew what I was getting into.

Rolled my 2011 Taco. Stuck to my commuter for a few years and now the 2014 Crewmax is my utility/3rd vehicle. The only drawback is that it isn't as nimble and skinny off-road as the Taco AND I care about it a bit more becauseit cost 3x as much. It is an upgrade in every other way.

Same here, I would barely make it to Shreveport. The suspension was terrible on my TRD sport especially when towing. Had to get airbags and eventually swap out the entire leaf pack. The suspension off-road wasn't all that either, I ended up swapping it out for bilsteins.

The backseat leg room is atrocious but that could be said about all mid-size trucks. I'm interested to see the difference between the 2.5 gen tundra and the 3rd gen.

3rd gen DC 5' bed Tacoma to 2.5 gen DC 6.5' bed Tundra. Put 80k hard miles on the Tacoma in just under 3 years and loved it, but the short bed, small engine, and tiny cab weren't ideal with how much I towed/hauled.

Everything is better (for me) with the Tundra except gas mileage, city driving/parking, and off-roading. They're both absolutely awesome trucks, but they're each better suited for their intended purposes.
