Our 12" Calphalon skillet has bit the dust. Looking for a replacement. I know, cast iron. But my primary chef doesn't like cooking in cast iron. So I'm trying to find a non-stick, there's many reviews on the interwebs, but who knows what's genuine and what's sponsored.

The Calphalon has lasted longer than anticipated, but the French Toast experience this morning has determined a replacement is needed.

    Suggestions please.

Nice. You can't argue with 10 years hands on experience.

We use the tramontina Amazon special. First one we had was made in USA. Newer one is made in Brazil. Still a nice pan to have around

I have to throw away and start over with a Calphalon non-stick every 3 months. It gets used every day, hand washed with a soft sponge and only silicone cooking utensils. First month is good, second is fair, third is disappointing and by the end I am making a complete mess of eggs.

I’m also looking for a better recommendation.

You need safe cooking hardware. Might as well eat lead paint with a side of plastic for dessert
Daily use 3x a day finex cast iron skillet and Dutch oven 1-2x daily. All we’ve cooked with for 3.5 years
Pretty much only other cookware I’d consider would be titanium coated salad master

I'm all in for that. But they have to be seasoned occasionally and my other half isn't in to that.

I get that. But for the occasional use I'm not too worried. I'm sure as a child I ate some lead paint with a side of asbestos. Eye'm prefectly nermol

I hate to say it...but having owned a lot of different stuff, thus far, the best non-stick pans I've run into have been....Pampered Chef pans. They have that hexagonal thing that HexClad also has, and I've used the CRAP out of them for a few years now, and they look as good as new, and work exactly as they should. :)

I'm not familiar with that. Does it need seasoned or just regular hand washing? The two drawbacks for my wife with cast iron or steel are seasoning and weight.

Personally I'm a stainless or cast guy. My wife not so much. We've had one of these in a 12' for a year. It's pretty impressive. And the lid is a nice touch.

I've got a lot of OXO utensils and I really like them. No cookware though. ATK seems solid.

Do they still use the Tupperware model for their sales? I have a few grill utensils that my wife picked up years ago at the parties. Really good quality.
Like Cutco, a good product with poor sales tactics.

They are coated for non-stick. Really easy clean up and fairly reasonable price-wise. I got ours on Amazon.

We also use Gotham Steel. Great pans, don't break the bank. 2.5-3 years on the set we have and they still work as if they are new. No funky chemicals to flake off in your food either.

I realized that I didn't close the loop on this.
After much painstaking research, consisting of posting this and drinking beer while y'all responded, my wife came home with a Sedona brand 13" skillet from Macy's. $20.
I used it for the first time tonight and I have to admit it's not too bad. The Gotham Steel got my attention though, next replacement probably. Shrimp and grits tonight. The pan heated quickly and evenly. We shall see...

I read along because I’ve got a couple that will need replacing soon. One of those is the brown coated Gotham steel, and it has been pretty magic for a cheap, store-bought skillet.

I mean, yeah, they're still kinda an MLM, but as much as I *LOATHE* MLMs, I like Pampered Chef because the stuff's absolutely worth a damn. Their knives and crockery and pans aren't cheap but they're all 5-10 years old and look exactly the same way today as they did new. :)

I agree. What they offer is quality stuff. It's just the way you have to get it. I'd probably have more with a different sales tactic.
If I'm going to a party I expect beer, meat on the grill and naked chicks in the pool.

Yes. I’ve only had the one large skillet. It’s marked Gotham Steel 7034 at the base of the long handle. It’s only been maybe 5+ years and it won’t last much longer, because we have a tiny kitchen and have to stack skillets in the cupboards, which is hard on the interior of coated pans. But the handles are solid and if we hadn’t abused the coating, I’m sure it’d go forever. It is our favourite at-home skillet* for scrambled eggs and for bacon, and cooks everything else nicely too! I bought it cheap at Target in an “as seen on tv” display they had, because it was inexpensive enough to warrant taking a chance. It rocks!

Don’t get me wrong; I love our All-Clad skillet too! But for every day everything… as long as you’re not opposed to non-stick coated pans, the GS is bomb!
