Anyone else get this email? Looks like they extended the trial from 3 year to 10 year.

Opened up the app and it looks like it is confirmed 10 year trial! Don't know what Service connect is but I didn't see it on the app unless it's part of the Safety Connect.

Ditto- wish they woulda added the remote connect to that sense it’s all I’d keep using.
But at least if the trucks stolen it can be tracked:spy:

"That's all I'd keep using". I agree with you, and that's probably why it's not included. They have the best shot at getting people to pay for this one

Now if they add in hotel discounts, free towing/gas/fix a flat and trip planning/maps I can cancel AAA

Of course they want service connect free, so they can badger you to come in to the dealer for service. I’m sure they also like to track this for warranty purposes.

Anyway, it does lower my insurance, so that’s a plus.

Looks like they have already made a concession on the safety connect trial duration after getting market feedback on how amazingly tone-deaf it is to nickle and dime your customers who are spending huge amounts of money on your vehicle.

I for one am extremely unimpressed that after 12 months I have to start paying $8/month for the privilege of remote starting my $60k truck.

I am hoping someone at Toyota decides to do right by its customers and change this to a free feature in the near future.

I traded in my Tesla for my truck and I will say I miss things like monthly updates to the car for cool new features and bug fixes. Also the ability to connect to the car without paying extra monthly was awesome. Toyota is still stuck a decade in the past and hopefully will change going forward.

Does the remote start from the key fob work without subscription? I read someone's post on here saying they cancelled all subscriptions right away and that they could still remote start with the fob

Sounds like maybe the negative feedback on the new subscription business model has them inching away from it?

My key fob doesnt have a remote start button. My options are lock, unlock, lower tailgate, or panic alarm. My only remote start option is through the app.

Press lock button three times in quick succession, on the third press & hold. Remote start voila

    Edit: What @DFS said ^

I was able to get it to work with by pressing LOCK three times. Two quick presses and hold on the third press (~3-5 seconds).

All good, my sales people didn't let me know how anything works. I went a week before learning I had power running boards...Enjoy the truck!

personally safety connect should have an on-going cost since they usually have a real person calling the vehicle and it costs money to keep the person on standby 24/7.

service/remote connect i would have like to be longer, but i understand the cellular cost to keep that unit online but at $80/$90 year i cant see the justification compared to my remote start at $40 a year for remote start/stop and gps location.

I had no idea about this. Just tried it and it worked. Very nice. Thanks for sharing the info…I did not see this in the manual either.

It’s not in the manual. I imagine that’s because it relates more to connected services than it does to a standard feature of the truck in the eyes of Toyota.
