You must be the only 3rd Gen owner who hasn't tried to justify his purchase to the 2.5 Gen owners and convince us all to trade up.

This was my very first thought, minus the "if necessary" part. They already can't find the problem, take it somewhere else (maybe even an independent shop that has a good reputation) and see if a fresh set of eyes can figure it out. I'd definitely exhaust every venue I could at fixing what should be a minor problem. Heck, I'd even be willing to run a manual switch wired straight to the battery if it'd save me $50k.

Also agree with others, now is NOT the time to make any large purchases / take on debt if it can be avoided. Add in, if your dealer can't figure out a fan issue on a 2018, what chance do they have figuring out "new" issues on the '22 (if any should arise)?

I don't feel the need to justify it to anyone. Both gens are great in their own way. I like the simple, rugged V8 of the 2.5 Gen. I like the smooth, shove you back in your seat power and torque of the TT V6. I like the extra couple MPG I get in my 3rd Gen, but I also like the proven track record of the 2.5 Gen. I like the aggressive styling of my '22, but I think think a '14+ can look badass when done up right too. For now, I'd feel more comfortable going way back into the remote wilderness in a 2.5 Gen, but my 3rd Gen is an ideal Basic Dude Truck and family hauler.

If used vehicle prices hadn't been so out to lunch, I would have ended up in a 2018 or 2019. As it is, I paid roughly $5K more for a brand new truck with a full warranty than I would have for a 3+ year old truck with 150,000KMS or more on it. Buying a 3rd Gen made sense for me. Sticking with a 2.5 Gen makes more sense to others.

When it all comes down to it though, I'll eventually get my 1st Gen back from my dad and we all know 1st Gens are the Best Gen. :D

Thanks for not putting this thread in the 3rd Gen forum.
IMO - If you tell us what aspects you like most about your truck, that will probably get you responses to help you the most with your decision.

OP, it's really up to you. Your heart wants the new models with new features and you can afford it, go for it. If you have a good paying secure job, you have savings for the rainy day, you don't mind taking the risks with the new model, I say go for it. Seems like you don't put a lot of mileage on the truck. If the new one gets to be a pain, sell it or trade it in for a 2023. Check the history of the truck and maintenance history. Enjoy. Put pics when you get it.

    Lowlife,

it’s not bullshit. I bought a 2008 Tundra in 2009 which had 10,000 miles on it. It was certified pre-owned by Toyota which included the Bumper to Bumper 100,000 mile warranty with 3 years of Roadside Assistance from Toyota. You calling me a liar?
    And I don’t work as a salesman.

You can also purchase within the 3 year 36,000 mile a Toyota Platinum which can go 7 years or 125,000 miles bumper to bumper warranty.

Get your facts right before you call bullshit Lowlife.

My 2019 certified only came with an additional 12k miles and 12 months beyond the original warranty if I remember correctly. Definitely not 100k bumper to bumper.

That’s what my wife’s certified 19’ Rav4 was. 7 year 100k for the powertrain only. And then whatever still remained of the 3 year 36k for everything else.

*along with more complicated, is more useless nannies and a smaller overworked engine that experts like Scotty doubt will be as long-lasting.

Bingo ... watch out though, as the powers that be, will now change the definition.

Not you. The statement. “The 2022 is sooo much better,” is an unqualified statement. You didn’t say how or why it’s so much better.

Comprehensive ~= bumper to bumper, to my understanding. Mine was certified pre owned and I'm only covered on comprehensive to 14K miles. You can get comprehensive to 100k IF you pay an additional $3K for it.

Totally not worth getting a 2022. You're throwing money away to buy what is essentially a statistic: the model year. The 50K difference in cost between the trucks can buy enough gas at 15mpg to go around 220K miles. For the MPG difference, it would take you forever for that to ever be a reasonable argument to get a new truck. Good luck with those turbos lasting that long. When they fail it's time to pull the freaking CAB OFF THE FRAME to replace them!

Stay where you are, definitely the cheaper, more efficient, less risky and by far less stressful choice.

Currently IMO it's not a trade up and would suggest you keep the '18. Maybe in a couple years when all the bugs are worked out and the supply chain issues are improved. Good luck with your decision.

I respectfully beg to disagree -- you have clearly not owned a Land Rover!

To the OP -- I would 100% stick with your current truck unless you have a strong argument to get into a newer one.

I'm in the camp of "keep what you have and pay it off". I don't care how awesome the 2022 is, its not as awesome as not having a monthly payment.

In the same camp. I've had ZERO car payments for over 8 years and it is a great feeling. I've spent my money on other life experiences. Anyway, the current market plus inflation doesn't make taking on large amounts of debt a good thing.

I will typically not have more than one car payment if I have one at all. And my goal is pay that one off as early as possible. Went 6 years in one stretch without a car payment. That was nice. Have 4 drivers in the house and 5 cars. Only have a payment on the 19 I got last year. When you need a new car, you need one. If you don’t need one, nice to use that money to hang out on the beach in Mexico.
