1st Gen. Lunch Table - General Discussion

We really like our neighbors. Like kids-play-in-the-street sort of neighbors. Like gather-in-the-center-of-the-circle-on-the-grass-once-a-week neighbors. We micro-targeted this street specifically and paid for the specific location.

Also, ran past an interesting home today, gonna look it up right now. A "if I got divorced I could live here" sort of pad.

 

OK, so not really a budget price point but I was surprised at how much I liked the setup:

Not sure what the deal/problem is with the shop and being over the property line.

Still, a lot to like about this for one dude with a half dozen trucks.

 

The photoshopped flames are kinda comical. If you want to renovate or replace the cheaper stuff it looks ok, but the price... yeah way outta budget for me.

 

Solid lot in a good school district. Super WT compared to what is nearby. Checks all my boxes. Pretty sure that says something about me.

Also, thought I could maybe finish clearing the garage out today but it looks like I’ve already lost that space now too. Never mind the 4 other large rooms inside. Guess we need to get the floors done sooner rather than later, inside is all carpet hell

 

That’s a $275-300k house here. Maybe.

 

Probably $375k here. Then it needs $100k in remodeling. I like things about it though.

 

Oh the structure itself is total crap, teardown for sure. Something only a dirtbag like me could appreciate.

One acre which appears to be ok to split, in that location, pretty OK price.

 

Hardly any areas in CA have an obvious Autumn. A few small enclaves with leafy trees that change colour, but our main trees are oaks, pines, … plus imported palms, fruits, cypress and whatnot.

 

Nope. So cal don’t have no seasons. Just summer.

oh yeah, no trees either.

 

Or water, or power....

 

I have at least one extra OEM clock spring but where it gets sketchy is the change from single stage airbag to dual stage.

 

Do you have that in Texas? Most of Texas I've seen didn't have a lot of trees.

 

Install shouldn’t be too difficult. You don’t want to DIY? Without kids ruining things it seems like a pleasant afternoon project.

 

Roger. It doesn’t seem scary to me if everything plugs in ok and you aren’t changing the bag itself. That’s the part I’m most nervous about, applying power after changing the bag. But as long as the connector is the same I expect it to behave the same. And I can probably clear codes with tech steam so if I blow the new bag I hope I can get the old bag in. And even without a bag, f it, I’ve had a good life. Hahahahaha.

 

The battery in my Avalon has been through 4 cars since I’ve owned it. 12 years old. Still testing good. YOLO

It’s an AGM

 

I don’t want to pressure anyone but, also, want to share that this had me freaked out as well… until I completely dismantled and removed the dash and everything under and behind it…twice. To do this, I had to remove the steering wheel (with airbag) and also there’s another over the glove compartment… that one I kept in the otherwise almost-fully-dismantled dash, but took the entire thing out. Then transported it to my buddy’s house to show him what I needed help with.

I am no longer afraid of the airbags. When I reconnect the connector, I make sure I’m not standing immediately in front of the panel covering the bag, which seems like a an obvious precaution. And I’ve also considered there could be a bit of stored static electricity* to discharge, after I disconnect it as well, so I stand off the side for that as well. And I wouldn’t scotch tape a bunch shrapnel over the steering wheel or anything stickdeath.com I don’t mess around with the bag while it’s disconnected, just set it somewhere out of the way, so it won’t get kicked or knocked over. But there’s no hair-trigger danger involved. I can’t believed how underwhelmed I was, after doing it. And you can borrow a steering wheel puller from an auto parts store for free.

*I had this epiphany after I swapped out the capacitor for my house A/C and, only afterward, a friend explained how capacitors work… by storing a ridiculously powerful starter charge , and that I should be sure to review a ton of video to make sure I know how to discharge the stored charge so I don’t get killed. Yet another day I recognized I am blessed and lucky. But anyway… the airbags aren’t scary after all.

Again, not pushing you to do anything— just, now I know what’s involved, I found it isn’t what I worried about.

 

Clockspring is stupid easy. Just rent the steering wheel puller from somewhere. Unhook the battery (wait a few minutes if it makes you feel better) pull the two torx screws in each side of the wheel (they unscrew but don't fall out) pop the bag out unbolt the wheel and unhook connectors then pull the clockspring out (I don't remember the specifics on that part).

 

@FirstGenVol, and Jpink both know I really don't give a fuck when it comes to safety. I'd rather just get the job done, and deal with the injuries later. Having had airbags blow up in my face, and watching them be detonated, and assembled at work... I'd take literally no chances with shit like that.

Safety third, almost always... However when dealing with air bags... I'd happily order one of these for my whichever hand I use to reconnect the wiring.

I’m gonna admit, I only followed the link because I was in the mood to be rickrolled.

 

I’ve only been hit by a DC cap, I thought the cooks poked me or something, I turned around with a grumble face……
I’m not to sceered of house AC caps, but I’ll still stick a screwdriver across the terminals for good luck
