Tailgate Black Top Trim, Can it be removed?

2022 SR5 4x4 DC, Silver w/many options

Toyota Predator Steps, Truxedo Sentry CT Roll-ip Tonneau Cover, Custom side bed divider

I have a '22 SR5 4x4 the has an UGLY black cap trim on the top exterior side of the tailgate. I see photos of others (also SR5) that don't have it. I assume it is part of some option, does anyone know which one? See the photos.

Can it be removed without affecting any function?

My Options: Advanced Tech, Premium Audio, PVM & BSM Outer Mirrors, Rear Air Suspension, SR5 Premium Pkg, Spray-on Bed Liner

I'm sure you can remove it, but you'll be left with some clip holes--but of course, you can replace it with a painted one
