I can appreciate the bike issue. I have a 6.5' box on my F150 and can put two large mountain bikes as well as my sons bike in it. I have a topper too so they are fully protected from the elements and locked up. I couldnt do this with a 5.5'.

I would say wait but no idea how long it could be.

The length issue is killing me.
I didn’t think a topper was tall enough to get bikes underneath. Assuming they stand up in the box, what topper do you have and what rack do you use?

What about a bed extender? I’ll probably pick one up for my short bed for hauling two dirt bikes.

I had a bed extender years ago. It was handy when I needed it but in the way otherwise.

Sold out from underneath us. Time to look elsewhere. Loyalty got us nowhere.

i just lean them up against the side. No rack. They stay in place just fine.

when did it sell? You posted on Wednesday about it. If you didn’t decide Wednesday or early Thursday I wouldn’t call that “sold out from underneath”.

Every time my dealer called me with an allocation, I had less than an hour to decide whether to take it or they'd just move on to the next person on the wait list.

We told them Thursday morning we wanted it. I knew the salesman would be away that day and gone all weekend. He said to email him which I did at 9:00 am Thursday morning. It sold later that day before he retrieved his email. We got a second email from him Saturday saying it sold Thursday. Wish he had made different arrangements for contact and I should have known better.
Like I said, our loyalty didn't mean anything. Different tactics in play now. I won’t elaborate now until we get a truck as this is a public forum and I don’t know who our audience is (ie what dealerships monitor the forum). I’ll share info once we get a truck, whenever that is.
Thanks for all the replies and support.

    My thoughts, and a question:

    - If I had close to zero parking issues, I'd wait for the longbox.
    - Unless...if you are ok with the hassle and economics of the potential trade you mentioned, then might as well get the short now and the long at the same time you would have anyhow.
    - As mentioned, once you have the hybrid, you might regret switching back to the non-hybrid.
    - If my sole reason for the longbox was for bikes, I'd seriously question if a bed extender as previously mentioned would take care of a majority of issues and leave some benefits as well. A camper shell can work with an extender with the window opened or not.

    Question- why the 1794?

Good luck either way, fun times ahead whichever path you choose!

As stated previously, unless you have driven a longer vehicle like that (example crew cab F250 with 6.5ft bed), the longer length really impacts daily usage. A 5.5 box (or 6.5 with DC) is long but on the outer edge of park-able in most suburban situations. Adding 1ft to that (and corresponding longer wheel base for turns) would make even suburban usage a hassle, let alone urban areas.
