    Update.
    This doesn’t work for my 2001 Tundra. It seems that the hook is too big.

    I'm surprised in this day and age you can't get an upgraded replacement that's just one interlocking piece which folds up. I had to use mine today to put back my spare with the slow leak. PIA to screw them together with screws that tend to seize.

    Looks like the 20 yr old spare tire is still somewhat useful if I have an air pump readily available after the pressure drops too low after a month.

    I found out the same thing when I lowered mine for the first time in 10 years or so to check the pressure. What a PIA just to air it up, it was good to check as it was down to about 20 lbs. I did this, so I can check and add air without fighting the cheesy rod thing.

    I run one of my factory wheels with the proper size tire on it as a spare. I just put it valve stem side down. I think some worry that it will eat up your rim or something. I couldn't care less if it does in my case but I'm still not sure how true it is.

    Might be a chain instead of a cable that hoists the tire like the second gens, but probably.
