    Hi Everyone,

I have a 22 Tundra SR5 Off Road that is 3 months old and has 3,000 miles on it. Went to the dealership with a rattling complaint under the truck and was told that I need the transmission replaced wth! Has anyone had this same issue? What was the final outcome if so? I would like to see if anyone was compensated or had there truck replaced. I am a little worried that the resale value is going to drop seeing that the car fax report will show a replaced transmission after just 3 months of ownership. I appreciate the feedback in advance!

Brand new truck will get a brand new transmission. Don’t see how the value will be affected at all.

The replacement transmission will not change the resale value of your vehicle.

Isn't this why new vehicles all come with manufacturer warranties? Sounds like it worked as it is supposed to.

I'd be upset if they didn't give you a rental car to drive and if it takes more than 2 weeks. Don't get me wrong, it sucks to have it happen and it shouldn't but when they build 50,000 tranny's, even at a microscopic 1% percent failure rate that's 500 tranny's that will fail prematurely. Let us know how they treat you and the outcome.

it’s likely a strange failure and corporate engineering wanted it back to study it.

I would also not be that upset about this. It sucks but things happen. Doesn't make the whole truck a lemon.

I’m going through the same scenario but my “ticking” showed up with less than 200 miles on the odometer. Toyota directed the dealership to replace the transmission. Dealership gave me a 2022 Tundra Limited as a loaner and provided a 8 yr/125,000 mile warranty.

Toyota corporate might have decided they want the transmission back to study why it failed vs fix something simple/easy and that's why they want to replace the whole thing. I wouldn't be worried about a new transmission affecting resale.

Thanks for the feedback. Did you ask Toyota for the additional warranty or did they just offer it to you?

I asked the general manager to cancel and refund my extended warranty and provide me the 8yr/125,000 mile warranty.

I spoke to a good friend who is the service manager at a local Ford dealership. He said that he has seen more transmission issues in the last year than in the previous 14 years. He also said that they send their defective transmissions to a third party for them to rebuild. Made me feel a little better about how Toyota has handled my situation.

I'm not smart enough to link to the video, but I started a thread named "Transmission Ticking Noise" and TundraFarm posted a video of the noise in that thread.

The car with the new trans will be just fine but there is always some expectation that when you purchase a new car, it will be like "forever" and reliable ... kind of like marriage :monocle: but wait, now we're talking about %50 success rate.

It never feels good to buy a brand new car and run into issues!

Those of us who bought 2022s will be the reason why Toyota wins all the reliability trophies in 2027.

Toyota corporate probably wants to see what causes failures and problems. Glad they are taking care of it. No, it won’t affect your trucks value.

I have a 2022 limited and it’s transmission was replaced at 3000 miles. Never had any ticking noises but it would randomly slam into the wrong gear when going from revers to drive. It would go from reverse to 5th or something and made all kinds of alarms.

It was in the shop 5 times and 32 days, which in ohio is lemon law. Toyota agreed it was a lemon but their offer of buy back did not make me whole, which is the purpose of the law, I asked for a replacement. When they do buyback, you have to give them back the truck immediately. With the long lead times on these things, I’d be without a truck for at least 6 months, probably longer, until I could get a new one.

Next, they were only willing to refund the sales tax on the buyers order. Which on the surface, sounds fair but in ohio, if you trade in a vehicle, you only pay tax on the difference. I traded in my Tacoma for the Tundra and only had to pay tax on like 20k. That means if I were to buy a new one, I lost my trade in tax credit and would have to pay tax on the full price of a new one. Let’s say I paid $1500 tax on the lemon. Their buy back refunds me $1500, but buying a new one would cost me $4000 in sales tax. Difference of $2500.

Finally, msrp and interest rates are going up. Msrp by about $2k and arp by about 2%.

so after doing all the math, I figured if I agreed to Toyotas buy back offer and tried to buy the exact same model 2023 Tundra, I’d be without a vehicle for 6 months and it would cost me about $6500 more than my original purchase.

Also, do not do the arbitration. It’s a complete waste of time. Toyota tries to make it seem like you have to do it first, but you don’t. Talk to a lawyer first, lemon law lawyers are free.

Ii just picked mine up yesterday new from the dealer with 1 mike on it and mine has the clicking noise as well when in drive. I noticed it at the drive through heading home. It does sound like a solenoid to me also. I’ll let me dealer know. Hopefully there’s a TSB out by now.

I’ve noticed my transmission acting up when dropping a gear. If I’m traveling at 55 and give it a little gas, I’ll hear and feel a large ‘clunk’ as it shifts. Was this a symptom for anyone before a replacement?

Prior to my transmission replacement I never noticed any clunking, just a ticking sound coming from transmission.
