So I bought a new set of rims and tires and planning to put the oem tpms in the new setup. Rims are changing from 20' to 18' and I'm going from whatever size came with a 2020 trd sport to 33s. Will the tpms need to be recalibrated?

Unless you know which sensor came from which position, you are going to have one hell of a time with them.

that shouldn't matter should it? every time i rotate tires, it relearns their positions. same with my wife's van and old car.

So let me ask you this. What exactly do you do and are you positive that the actual sensor moves to the new position (verified by deflating or adding air to a tire)? The reason I ask is I rotated tires on my 2020, and the display went to dashes. I have tried the reset several times. 1500 miles later, it still shows dashes. On our 2020 4Runner, the pressures remain when you rotate, but they will be backwards until you go into the display and hit the set location menu.

Are you still using your OEM TPMS, George? When I had to remove my TPMS from my stock alloys and install it on my ProComps, they read right away. They even read while they were on the bed of my truck without the need to reset or re-calibrate the TPMS.

i rotate my own tires. i move them myself. typically a tire will show a lower/higher pressure than others and said tire will move location accordingly. i haven't rotated my 21 PRO sequoia tires yet and my last 2 tundras were both SR5's (2017 & 2011). wife's 2012 acura TL and 2019 Odyssey both don't/didn't require resetting tire location.

i'd say try putting tires back in the original spot and drive them for a few miles and see if they pop up.
or you could print vinyl overlays and stick them over the cluster with your desired information.:D

I'm pretty confident that they will change on the dash accordingly to where they are placed. I know because I have one tire that needs air every so often quite more than the others and would get an alert on the dash at whichever location it's at.

If your TPMS is showing dashes, I'm going to take a guess that it may possibly be damaged? Have you tried going to discount tires or even the dealership to see if they can have the TPMS be re-calibrated through the techstream?
