Hi guys, just had an issue with my 2022 4x4 Toyota Tundra. I installed a 2” levers and one of the front axle snapped just by turning the wheels. Does anyone had an issue like this? 25D5F583-43DF-444D-AB88-4A158EF1AF50.jpg

They’ll most likely blame the leveling kit. Came out of the differential side which looks more expensive. What were you doing when it broke? How bad was the angle? Can you post a pic of the other side?

Hard to tell from the pic, but did anything break other than maybe the boot? Did the tripod just slide out of the companion flange?

How long were you driving it around with the leveling kit before this happened?

Was it even in 4wd when it happened? Hard to believe this could happen in 2wd. Afraid to ask, but which "level kit" was used, and who installed it? Pics of lift and truck?

So you were turning the vehicle hard on dry pavement in 4x4 and backing in? If that is the case, I’m not totally surprised. Part time 4x4 101 is Never drive and turn the vehicle tightly while in motion if the tires can’t slip on either loose or slippery ground. Otherwise you bind the drivetrain and things can break.

Lesson learned I suppose! Hopefully it’s not too costly. While it I’m sure didn’t help, I wouldn’t blame the leveling kit for this particular failure. I’ve never seen anyone actually break something like that before by binding the drivetrain, but when it’s binding you can probably tell it doesn’t feel right. The truck won’t want to move without excessive throttle, and the tires may even skip across the pavement. From here out, only use 4x4 in slippery conditions unless you’re engaging it in a straight line to exercise the 4x4 actuators and components.

    Damn. I'm sorry that happened.

Sounds like a binding issue and really nothing to do with the leveling kit. I've run a dirt cheap 2" leveling kit ($50) for over 10k miles while waiting on my Icon setup to arrive.

As @Silver17 mentioned, binding & breakage can occur like this when turning at lock in 4WD when the wheels can't "slip." If it was dry pavement, can I ask why you were in 4WD? Were you towing something?

Side note: I'm not sure if this true or not. I've never been able to validate it myself. I see you have the standard black axles. I've heard that the red TRD axles (the ones that come on the TRD OR package) allow for slightly higher/tighter angles on the driveshafts to minimize situations like this. Not that this can't still (& does) happen with the red axles, but I've heard they can take more abuse than the standard black axles.

Should be covered under warranty I would think. Can't see the levelling kit having anything to do with this. I think others in the thread have figured out the cause.

Sorry to hear it, OP. I've been known to learn a thing or two the hard way myself. Seems to me that is clear cut misuse of a part-time 4WD system, and I'm pretty sure that is specified in the manual. I'd be surprised if they cover it under warranty, even though it has nothing to do with the leveling kit.

    Two devil's advocate question:

    1) Does the warranty cover driver error in the event that they go against what's written in the owner's manual and break something as a result?

    2) Are we 100% sure the axle wouldn't have broken if the truck wasn't lifted?

After is fixed, what do you guys suggest doing? Remove the leveling kit and go back to the original tires.

Don't drive in 4x4 unless you're in low traction conditions, especially if you're turning sharply.

I think OP may want to give the dealership as little info as possible here lol. I hear you 100% and those will be the first two things he hears from the service manager.

Allow me to rephrase....I HOPE that this is covered under warranty.

OP give the dealership less info than you gave us as not to incriminate yourself

As someone else asked. Why were you turning sharply in 4x4 in reverse? What were you doing
