    Hi Guys/Gals,

This is my first post on this forum and I’m looking forward to reading some informed opinions from fellow Tundra owners. I own a white 2012 Tundra 5.7L 4WD TRD that I purchased new from Younger Toyota in Hagerstown, MD. I’ve been using it primarily to haul my toys (hang gliders, kayaks, bicycles, etc.) in the local area and the occasional household hauling chore. It currently has approximately 17,000 miles on it and has been driven very gently over the past 10 years. I use synthetic oil that gets changed annually and other than replacing a battery and tires, it’s needed no other repairs.

So my question is what type of age-based maintenance should I be considering on this 10-year old vehicle that’s been driven less than 2000 miles/year to keep it running smoothly for the foreseeable future? Thanks for any input you might be able to offer!

I would change spark plugs, not from miles but age. Then just do all fluid changes, coolant, power steering, brake, trans and xfer case drain and fill, diffs. Assuming all other maintenance items good that should bring the truck up to date. Check your coil packs for cracks, carbon tracking while changing plugs, cabin and engine air filter. Lube the zerks in the drivetrain.

I'd look thoroughly for rust which is the top killer of these trucks. Wash the underbody then get it on some ramps or stands and search with a flashlight. Pay particular attention to the cross members that support the bed. Any rust you find, grind off any flakey stuff, apply degreaser and clean it, let it dry, and then apply Corroseal to stop the rust.

You can keep this truck forever! Good buy.
