Might just boil down to 13WL to Lexus is fairly safe. Can't remember if you did MC work.

Can anyone tell me if there is a way to replace the rear backing plate without pulling the axles? I’ve seen a split-type kit sold for various GM products, but nothing for the Tundra. I’m thinking that the plate could be cut in the same fashion, possibly tack-welded at the rim once installed?

Axle shaft has to be pulled to completely replace the backing plate. The wheel bearing housing is pressed in to the backing plate and then there's four bolts that hold the backing plate and wheel bearing into the axle housing.

Not meaning to hijack this great thread, but wanted to ask the experts here if there's a "recommended brake replacement" thread for 1st gens. I thought there'd be a sticky, but didn't find one and searches don't come up with anything like that. A link or links would be appreciated and apologies if I've missed them.

    TIA!

Sounds like there’s no ‘short cut’. With 237k, should I do the bearings when it’s apart? I’m not looking for trouble, but this is my primary ride, and I try to fix stuff before it breaks… it has sounded a little growly lately.

I mean, it wouldn't hurt to do the bearings and seals while it's apart since they're a "wear" item. If they go out (which could be years from now) after you change the backing plate, you're still looking at complete breakdown, bleeding the brakes and everything.

I had a wheel bearing go out at 155k-ish and I had to replace the ABS tone ring as well because it was damaged. If you're going to disassemble and reassemble the axle yourself, just note that the ABS tone ring has to be pressed on to a certain specification.

These are the part numbers I used, excluding the tone ring and retainers.

    2x - 90363-40068 - Wheel Bearing
    2x - 90520-36045 - Axle shaft snap ring
    2x - 90313-54001 - Outer axle seal
    2x - 90301-88077 - Axle housing O-Ring
    2x - 90310-50006 - Inner axle seal
