How long until auto mfg's start looking into alternative options for cats that don't make them so valuable to steal?

Not that they'll take ownership but just a design change to where they're not worth anything on secondary market. Like stealing a muffler.

Are any German vehicles as high off the ground as a Tundra?

Sorry to hear cats were stolen. Good thing you did not drive….. there is a video out showing a Tundra in flames after he drove with his cats stolen.
If you get your cats stolen check for leaks…

Its not really about the height, the most commonly stolen cats are on the lowest cars, Prius. My daughter's was taken, I looked underneath and what has to be done to remove it, there is no way to do it unless the car is lifted on one side or the other so height is no issue, its about Ease of removal. On a 2nd gen Prius, 2 bolts, that's it.

On her new cat, I had the muffler guy bolt and weld it on, then added welded rebar all around it, sure they can still steal it yet it will need lots of work and noise to get it out now so hopefully they'll see it and just move on to easier targets, we'll see. I did the rebar thing to all my other autos/trucks too.

And they have the balls to sell a cat guard on their website. Surprised there isn't a class action lawsuit yet.

Wow, these assholes are just pulling them off with straps now...imagine what additional damage this causes.

I'm surprised the exhaust piping is what breaks first using that method...

I’m at almost 10k in my cat repair. They hit my Evap lines.

Yes, fortunately I carry full coverage.

still expecting my rates to double at renewal.

They already doubled last year once for an accident that wasn’t my fault…(hit by a drunk driver, they caught him, but it still was a 250k accident and still climbing.)

What state are you in? I would shop around if yours keep climbing for an accident that wasn’t your fault.

North Texas. We shopped around last year and got not quiet doubled but still close.

whats odd is we have 700+ credit scores, no points, no speeding tickets at fault accidents etc. every insurance company said the same thing “It’s not you it’s the region.”
