Tinted my Pro on the windshield with no issue. I suspect that this is a simple moisture entrapment issue. Did you notice any moisture when removing tint from round the mirror/camera cluster?

It was for a few hours. And the second time a jumpstart wouldn’t work and the battery tested fine.

Update from the dealer- They said everything is fine. The only codes that popped up were for AC and loss of communication.

I have no idea whether it was the windshield tint or water getting in the dash somewhere, but thankfully the issue seems to be gone now.

had a similar issue. Had my windshield tinted to 50%, drove it home fine. started it up and it threw this:

called up the tint shop. They said it happens sometimes from all the liquid they use. Let it dry for a while and it should go away. I did just that - I let it sit in the hot sun for a couple days, and there hasn't been an issue since.

No. The tint had already begun to set so I had to scrape the sticky part off.

Basically the same thing. Engine, hybrid system, brake, start, etc. But mine wouldn’t even start up. I only waited a day to see if the moisture would dry up though.

I wish Toyota found an actual issue because at least that way I’d have piece of mind haha.

Chances are different tint shops use different methods of controlling the moisture as they tint those areas hence the variability.

So those with Hybrid may just need to give the tint shop a heads up.

Very similar issue here today and found this thread. I have a 2022 Tundra TRD PRO that I picked up Monday, went to tint shop and with scheduled pick up today got to the parking lot and heard the fan buzzing like crazy. I thought the installer had left the car on high heat to help set the film. After looking the tint over (50% front windshield, 15% front sides, 5% backs sides, moonroof and rear), I noticed the engine wouldn't turn and saw the multiple check engine lights, hybrid engine error codes. Gas tank door didn't malfunction but rear tailgate wouldn't open. Battery meter on IC showed it at 9 volts, down from the usual 12.

I'm really hoping my issues are due to the moisture like others in this thread. Not sure how long I have to wait but I might take my bluetti battery and a hair dryer to gently blow some lukewarm air into the vent on passenger side to see if that helps if car isn't working by tomorrow. It's a weird issue and slightly odd that things would have been designed with so much sensitivity to moisture.

Through this process I also realized I don't know how to jump the car, I checked manual and found the + terminal near the fuse box on the passenger side but couldn't find the negative attachment as depicted in the manual. Manuals shows popping the engine cover off and attaching to a tab in the middle of it but couldn't find it for the life of me. I wish the hybrid battery would help charge the 12v battery in states of low charge if needed.

If anyone has any other ideas would appreciate it. Keeping fingers crossed.

After talking to a couple of other people I’d let it sit for more than a day in the sun to try and dry it out to see if that does the truck. I think if I waited another day or so it might’ve dried out and gone back to normal.

There’s a silver box and black bolt right behind the fuse box where the + terminal is that I used for ground. Not sure if you could use the battery underneath the rear drivers seat also?

Seeing all of this makes me curious: why tint your windshield? I feel like window tint in general just kills your situational awareness from dusk to dawn, but doing the windshield as well doesn't make any sense.

70% tint is barely noticeable but ceramic film will help with heat rejection. Tinting the windshield and the pano roof made a huge improvement on my truck.

My front is 70% ceramic and it made a decent difference. No issues. 9/10 Sun-haters recommend.

I am still having a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that these trucks are failing from a tint application. Wether it be from the install or the tint itself, it sounds completely ridiculous that anyone in a 22' has to be wary of this kind of thing.
Any reputable installer of window applications doesn't just soak the F'n dashboard with a bucket. They spray what they need and cover the dash to catch over spray, that's it. If these trucks are that sensitive to moisture then we're doomed!
    Careful!
Clean the inside of your windows, but don't let a drop of water touch the dashboard or your ECU will detonate!
It's like saying don't drive your truck outside your garage because it rained and won't start due to moisture!
    C'mon Toyota, this is pathetic.

    And IMO,
Ceramic/thermal applications of the windshield should be standard, or at least optional from the factory on all new vehicles.

The problem isn't how much water they spray on the dash, it is how much water is squeegee'd out from under the tint, and where it goes if you didn't catch it all. Here is a really good video of the process, and some of the tools a reputable tint installer should be using for a job like this.

It actually is pretty concerning. My tint installer does good work, I personally watched him on two of my other cars and it he is meticulous about putting a cover and foam wedge down, but still maybe some moisture got in.

Worst part is that I’m trying to get a tow and with all the various malfunctions going on there is no way to turn off my parking brake. It is part of the malfunction along with the collision avoidance system and hybrid engine failure. Dash reads 9volts for front battery but when hooking a meter up it reads 12. Outdoor temp yesterday showed -40 degrees, now is reading correct ambient temps.

Pretty sad to see this in a 1 week old truck. Best part is Toyota service is pretty useless and is unwilling to assist the tow driver on how to proceed.

Ok so…..being the glutton for punishment that I am, I got the windshield tinted at a different top that my friend with a 22 limited had his tinted at. And NO issues.

Guess that means it was the water that got into the dash. Hopefully nobody else has to go through this now! Just make sure your tint shop is aware of the issue and is extra cautious with the water.

And for those who were wondering why someone would do windshield tint/what it looks like, this is the 70% tint at 5pm.

I took my car back from the dealer after they cleared the codes. It was a pain and they had no clue what was wrong. My battery meter still reads wrong and hasn’t corrected, shows 9v constantly even when with a separate meter reads 12. Otherwise car works just fine, did a 600 mile trip to test it out.

People don’t understand the benefits of a windshield tint. This is the third car I’ve done 50% ceramic on and it’s a huge difference, not just in heat rejection but reducing photophobia and glare while driving. Zero issues with visibility at night.

I have 70% on mine. You honestly can't tell it is even there. No change in visibility at night. The only quirk I have noticed with the ceramic film on the windshield is when you are wearing polarized sunglasses, it was turning things weird colors due to the polarization on the film. You can't use polarized lenses with the HUD (if you have it), so I switched to regular lenses anyway, but thats about it.

I love the tint. I wish I can tint front windshield too at 70% ceramic to prevent cabin heat in summer, but being in Pennsylvania, we have those damn State inspection and Emission inspection stickers on windshield every year.

I was honestly a little worried about polarized but I have zero issues with all 3 of my cars. I wear a variety of polarized lenses as well, so might be dependent on the type of film used?

Even with 50% good vis at night. I would argue that going moderate to heavy dark on your side windows is more dangerous than a light to moderate tint on the windshield. Front you have your headlights. Sides, unless you have adaptive headlights you run the risk of pedestrians/objects that are unlit.

Have auto makers gone from putting tint in the glass from the factory? Used to be that even clear glass had tint in it.
