I am having the Cat plate from Don McGill Toyota in Houston installed. I think most plates will probably make thieves move on to a different target. They use tamperproof bolts. I can see the point but I think is over kill. Oh and those tamperproof torx bolts are VERY easy to defeat.

If it isn't full coverage, front and rear, I'd look elsewhere.
    ESPECIALLY IN HOUSTON..
Although ANY shield may deter thieves, the more coverage the better.

As well I would not pay anyone to install a cat shield, especially a dealership.
It isn't very hard to install yourself..YMMV

BTW, you wouldn't feel ANYTHNG was overkill if you had them stolen and had to wait 8 months to get your truck back..:(

Had mine on for about 4 months. No problems yet. Where I live in central PA, there’s not a big problem with cat thieves. At least I haven’t heard of any. Haven’t heard of any kitty cat thieves either.

Over kill??? WTHeck is that about? It is saving a person heartache, stress, and on and on! People have been waiting months and months that have had them stolen so some security and a good nights sleep is more than worth it! Anything can be had, it just takes time, those plates are on there for a purpose and that is to keep the cats on the trucks! It is far from Over Kill!

Remember you do not have to get them put on. If they come with the truck take ‘em off and sell them to someone else.

I ordered cat plates in July 2021. I did so because 2 vehicles at the center I managed at the time had cats cut out, and after reading I learned that we have FOUR cats.

Our trucks sit high off the ground, so our ‘skirts are lifted’. Not having plates at this point is basically an invitation in my opinion.

I installed Valhalla plates about a year ago in early Oct 2021.

My work was in a SE Portland neighborhood that is especially emblematic of the catalytic converter theft problem: lots of poorly lighted areas, huge homeless tent population, no police presence or response, gutted cars all along the arterial streets, and auto salvage shops GALORE. It’s the epitome of a catalytic converter Bermuda Triangle.

After I installed my plates, vehicles sitting in the same lot as mine started getting hit furiously. Our patient transport bus had its cat cut out, replaced, then cut out again. Moved it to a partner facility for safety.
5 more cars and trucks were hit too. But they passed on mine.

Because I had to park there every day, I started checking under the truck, convinced the bastards were slowly hacking away at my plates, or the mounts. But no one ever did.

I since have favorably changed careers and no longer work there. But I have ZERO doubt that my truck would have been hit.

Some of those thefts happened during daylight hours, and the assholes are just too fast- like 7 minutes and done.

I think they see the plates and know they can’t make fast work of it, and just move on.

99% of the cars you’ll park around won’t have plates. They will be the targets.

    Don’t be one of those.

I can't be 100%, but I'm 99.99% sure if I would have had plates on my 2014 on 11/15/2021 mine would not have been stolen out of my employer's parking lot....

Any kind of shield is a must these days. Some have waited up to 11 months for OEM Cats. My co-worker didn't want to wait and got aftermarkets and they got stolen the next day while grocery shopping.
