Just had my check engine light diagnosed PO418 and received a $4000 repair estimate. For a known problem this is nuts! I read a few related threads and was wondering if I should bite the bullet and try replacing the air pumps and control valves myself? Or if I go with the bypass from Hewitt will the truck still pass emissions?

If you need to pass emissions, that system will need to function. You cant defeat emissions related equipment and pass. If your area does not do emission testing, then the bypass will get you where you need to be.

This is only if the emissions testing station is aware of the change - most of the time they will just do a quick look and then run the OBD codes. The bypass will keep the CEL off. Not much in the way of visually obvious modifications from the bypass. Probably be just fine, and for a few hundred instead of a few thousand.
