I do have to question; if you wound up with a need for the 2500 over the 1500 (which can be had with 5.3 or 6.2 v8, I believe), was the Tundra with its teeny-tiny payload and lack of a transmission cooler going to fit your needs anyway?

You do you. Don’t let people get to you. I also looked at the 2500Hd high country but to me the new Tundra just drove smoother. To each his own. Did you trade in your older Tundra as part of the deal or you still have it?

Yeah, talk to @Bob about it.

I'm not a firefighter but two of my friends are and my brother is a volunteer in his small town.

So you're in heavy duty truck territory anyway, which no generation of Tundra is.

NICE!! That’s one of my biggest regrets over the years as I usually traded in my used trucks/SUV’s for the new one and I had a couple of really cool set ups that I wish I would of kept over the years. Decided IF I get another truck after this one I am keeping this Tundra!!

The 6.0 is pretty known for reliable (for a Chevy). Only 2500/3500 HD gasser I’d buy would be 2011-2019 6.0

I'd probably be in the same truck if I needed much more payload. The only thing that gives me pause is, someone on the forum with a 2020 or 2021 GM HD said his 6.6L gas truck has to work just as hard as his 5.7 Tundra did pulling the same 8k load through hills and steep mountain grades. The only difference is, instead of being over his payload rating, he has payload to spare.

Slightly off-topic, I also read in a Lexus LX 570 brochure that the 5.7 makes 90% of its max torque at 2200 rpm. Pretty impressive for such an old engine.

As far as I understand it, the 6.6 is just a bored out 6.0. The 2020+ may also use the same transmission as the 2011-2019 but don't quote me on that.

I just keep my 2007 2500HD gasser, last of the 8.1L backed up with the Allison Transmission and 4.11 gears. It's coming up on 70k miles.

This is the very first v6 or turbo I have ever owned, always had v8’s and some with superchargers but no turbos. Never thought I would ever own a v6 until I drove the new Tundra. If you have not driven one you won’t understand just how smooth it drives and shifts, etc. Of course with the mods I have done it’s not the same anymore but I was doing these same mods on whatever truck I got so wanted to have the smoothest initial platform I could and after all the trucks I test drove the 2022 Tundra was it. FYI, and no BS I am actually considering paying this off in two years then getting a Lunar Rock TRD PRO and leaving it stock. Then can have modded up truck and stock one. Never considered doing that with any other trucks or SUV’s I have owned over the years!! Btw, I am not saying any other truck is not as good as the 2022 Tundra, but for me and my experience I am in love with it. :proposetoast:

The V6 in my '22 blows the doors off the V8 in my '05. It's way more fun to drive too. Put it in sport mode and send 'er. That turbo whistle is yummy.

I do miss the bare bones simplicity of my '05 sometimes though...

Bro, what in the heck is that? Ok I will admit now I don’t know if I’m thinking it’s the ugliest thing I have seen or is it a thing of Beauty and I need one to use as an ATV type vehicle??!! :notsure:

I'll probably have a good eye-wiper when I have to move on from my sweet V8's. Kind of like moving from a Honda CBX to a BMW R90, but it will have to be done at some point.

Nah, '79 CBX was factory. Bought it from a Honda tech. Definitely has a distinctive engine note. I can tell a CBX from a mile away, there's no other engine that sounds like that.

I think if I could have bought a brand new, frozen-in-time first gen when I was looking for my Tundra, then I absolutely would have it instead of my '21 today.

its a long'ish shot but you might be able to find a brand new 21 with the 5.7 on a lot somewhere.

Say what you want...but my brand new Hybrid Sienna gets 45mpg and has a 3500lb tow rating. I expected more mpg out of the new tundra but I guess it makes sense. Towing an extra 1000lbs would prob make my Sienna get somewhere around 20mpg.

That said, I'm somewhat interested in the Fiat 3.0 Ecodiesel in the Ram. Gets 30mpg.

What style do you instruct? Too long to explain on here, but I grew up learning from 2 uncles who taught Kenpo & Shotokan. Many fond memories of those times. Besides the military, those experiences shaped me into the man I am today……

funny this article just popped into my feed....Wow it has a 1000 mile range. You'll prob have to pay the mechanic instead of paying the gas station though.
