So a few weeks back I upgraded my steering wheel to a nice leather wheel from a Tacoma. Being in a hurry I failed to mark the original wheel and the steering shaft so when I installed the new wheel it’s been slightly off with the top dead center of the wheel pointing to about 1230 (clock position). I’ve removed and reinstalled this thing about 5 times trying to get it just right but it always seems to be about a spline or two off. Well on my last removal I got frustrated and didn’t disconnect the electrical connectors that plug into the clock spring. Needless to say when I popped the wheel off I heard a plastic pop and the clock spring had popped out slightly. I put it back and adjusted the wheel and reinstalled everything. No airbag light, horn works, steering wheel controls work however, I noticed my turn signals no longer auto cancel after a turn. Would this be a feature of the clock spring or a canceling cam or spring on the turn signal switch assembly? I’ll tear it apart on Thursday to check but wanted to see if someone has made the same bone head mistake. TIA

I figured it out. Pulled the airbag and steering wheel as well as the clock spring. There’s a white plastic detent on the turn signal switch that interfaces with the clock spring. I pulled the clock spring inspected it and reinstalled it noting no damage. Looks like when the clock spring got partially popped out it disengaged just enough with the turn signal switch to not auto cancel after a turn. Glad I’m not having to spend any $$.

Thanks for this post, I just replaced the clock spring on our 2012 tundra on the same day (9/13) and the next day realized our turn signals no longer canceled after making a turn.

When I took the steering wheel back off I found that I hadn't gotten all 3 of the clips on the clockspring fully snapped in tight. I gently pushed in on the clockspring and, click!

Now our horn is fixed (that is why I replaced the clock spring) and the blinker cancellation is working as it should.

    CHEERS!
