Cargo to 3rd brake light conversion

Converted my cargo lights to 3rd brake lights and installed vinyl over the clear portion of the lens. They are Vleds high output bulbs. I have to order a new center bulb....It's not working too well.

I love these little DIY mods that make other tundra owners notice and wonder what you did.

I get more questions about my third brake light and all red tails more than any other mod on my truck

 

I'm surprised that I haven't been asked about my tail light conversion and amber turn signals yet lol.

If I did this modification I would run the matching bulbs, not LEDs to keep my lamps matching.


Any thoughts to purchasing an all clear lense and tinting the entire thing red? Maybe to ensure complete color match?

if you use vht red tint it will match perfectly. Then clear coat with a quality clear. I’ve been using this method for years with complete success and lasting quality. I have an 08 mustang that I used this method and still looks like new.

mad car as bulbs. The best thing is use all the same bulbs, if you choose halogen or LED, if you choose LED, make sure you use Red

 

Its going into the queue. Ive been so damned busy I havent even put my short-person bed step in yet.

 

It is the OEM harness. I bought one so that I could do the conversion before I pulled it apart. This will allow me to have an extra harness to revert back to cargo lights if I ever wanted to. The vinyl is the same vinyl that I use on the taillight overlays that a few have bought. I just did a quick hand cut to see how it looks. I use all VLeds bulbs in my truck so they match the tail lights.

Thanks. I got the idea from @Jwood562. I figured what the heck.....I can't use my cargo lights anyway.

 

For those worried about blending the red it matches perfectly. I used the red vht bite shades, smoked nite shades and 2k clear
