What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Soooo. I got a little carried away on Crutchfield the other day. I started by looking for rear speakers and ended up buying a new Double din radio. With apple car play. And then I got even more carried away and did it after work and ended up working until about 11:30. hehehe... I ripped out all the carpet in the back and passenger side to do the amp bypass. Got it looking all factory up in there =) Not my best heat shrink work. Nothing a touch of E-tape can't fix. Gotta pull it back out and put the center console back in. Pas. seat has 2 bolts keeping it in for now. Gives me a great chance to do a deep clean =)=)=)

 

Yes. There are only a few companies that make sliders for our trucks and they either bolt on or weld on. White Knuckle bolt on and require drilling a few holes on each side.

 

New sneakers for the fronts that were worn down to the belts after 2 years and lack of inability to get alignment in spec. Setback $386+.

Now onto the LCAs tomorrow. Hoping that will give me the camber I need or I’m going to get soaked on replacement springs.

 

Found out today my 20+ old spare tire finally died (won’t hold air). Also, the steel rim is so rusty crusty it won’t easily seat the lug nuts over the threads (can only screw it down 1/2 way).

Now looking for a used tire/rim locally as a spare. Anyone have any idea what years Tundra/Tacoma fit the hub of an 02 Tundra?

 

I think most of the 6 lug wheels work fine. I got one from a junkyard when I moved up to 17" wheels. I see an entire set of the starfish wheels for $65 on Marketplace. I bet you can find one near you.

 

Well atleast you still have the ability to use the truck as a truck, haha. Im pretty commited to this being an RV at this point!

Passenger side LCA is loosey goosey. Torn bushing flexes an inch. Will post video tomorrow. Drivers side is loose as well but not as bad.

 

I actually got to drive it A few business errands and picked up some mason sand

Not sure if the Tundra can handle 50 lbs. of sand

Front LCA bolts came out and front adjusters could be turned easily. Hoping rear of arm adjusters are just as easy. Most likely it’s from the greasing I did first time.



@Kimosabe The bolts on my arms hang out past the CAM adjuster nut by 1/2”.

 

@Jack McCarthy I got my bolts in yesterday from the dealer. Front cam bolts are longer, along with the cam sleeves.

Got the front end buttoned up yesterday and did an iffy alignment myself. Earliest I can get in for an alignment is next Thursday. So luckily I don't have to drive much before then and can ride my bike since weather finally cooled down.
Good job on the greasing. I probably should have, but just sprayed down with fluid film.

 

Well if the longer bolts work, that’s great. Not sure why they’re making them longer. When I bought all new hardware 10 years back when I did it the first time, they were the right length.

I bought a tube of pure nickel anti-seize grease for $20 from Grainger and that’s held up well. Still have more to use with the reuse of the old CAM hardware. Dealer told me I can return the unused sleeves I bought just in case.

My Tacoma spare is like that - well, was. I found someone giving away his spare when he upgraded to larger size. Think I found it in the Tacoma World classifieds.
I've bounced most all my 6 lug rims onto & off both the '02 Taco & '03 Tundra. Right now the Taco is wearing a set of '16 Taco takeoff's. ...and the spare lives in the bed.

 

With everything that rusty you're lucky you got it down at all. I had to use bolt cutters on the cable, then replace the rusted solid winch. I found a matching starfish wheel on eBay for $50. I have 3 Toyotas with this type of spare mounting, so now I drop the spare at least once each year, check the pressure, and lubricate the cable.

 

Finally got the LCAs in today but not without a thorough mangling of both the passenger side shock and it’s bolt. Always seem to have difficulty lining it up even without the LBJ attached. Also redid the anti-seize grease. Decided to use the new CAM sleeves for the rear of the LCA since those seem to rust out quicker. Had to basically pull the steering rack bolts out and move it back 6 inches to get everything out. Now time for a beer and tomorrow I’ll get it all torqued up to spec. and put in the stabilizer links.

Oh, I’ve gotten regular use of that spare over the last 8 years with my ex-neighbor who used to put screws in my tires. Always a nice thing to wake up to in the morning.

 

I can't wait to not be from the rust-belt so I can buy nice vehicles.

OH - what have you done thread. So didn't drive the truck today, it's grounded until Tuesday.
Was driving & got this front end vibration about 55mph. Mind immediately went to ball joints. Pulled into the tire place, he lifted it up & decided bushings on the steering rack were very tired & one was past done. Phew!

 

@NUDRAT Ah, so ready to retire like myself. Good for you! Only one year for me before I can escape the bonds of my employer and retire early at 60. Not sure what I’ll do for the next 5 years, but with my luck nobody will be hiring since we seem to be heading for a recession.

Didn't have too DRIVE the Tundra this afternoon, both of the old AC's fit in the RX... Kids are happy and Dad didn't have to round trip 2-1/2 hours through the heartland...

 

Finally complete with the LCAs. Truck sits up higher now. Wonder if that’s because I tightened the CAM bolts to 90 ft-lbs with the rotors hanging in the air?

 

Probably wanna do those on the ground with weight on them. It also may settle a little.

 

Used my on board air to pressure test a gas line at the kids school. So convenient!

 

Wish I could. I should’ve used the jack to push up the arm like it was on the ground before tightening. I’ll let the alignment guys handle that tomorrow.
