Has anybody tried to take the airbag off the steering wheel?

I wanted to wrap or paint the trim garnish parts on my wheel. The older Tundra (up to 2021) had an access panel on either side with a #30 Torx bit to release the airbag so you could remove the airbag and take out the trim. I can't see any such access on the 2022 wheel and no YouTube videos yet on removal. Wondering if anybody has tried (successfully) to get it off? Descriptions are great, pictures are better. Thanks in advance!

I should have videoed it I guess but I don't know how to do that effectively. The process is pretty simple. There are two access holes on the back of the wheel at about 4 and 7 o'clock. insert a small flathead screwdriver in those holes to push up on a spring that will release 2/3 of the pins holding the airbag on. There's a small plastic access panel on the bottom (rear) of the wheel. remove that to expose the lower pin. Again, push up on the lever holding the pin in place and the airbag part will release. After that, it's just unplugging and one bolt (that's super tight) holding the wheel on. The bolt is an allen 10MM (i believe) and i had to use a breaker bar to release it.

This video doesn’t appear to show what the OP described he had to do to remove it on his 2022. Did you bother to watch it?

I watched the video - it’s for a 2020 Tundra, not a 2022. As I said above the procedure shown in the video is not what the OP described.

Maybe you should read OP’s description, then watch the video…then tell me where they match up.

And it’s obvious your “Professional Smartass” description fits you to a “T”…too bad your knowledge of the 2022 Tundra is so lacking.

Pointing out that Im a Smartass, when I literally put that I’m a Smartass, is not the witty comeback you think it is.

It’s so funny how you reply regardless.

Thanks for allowing me to take more room in your little head.

Here, I posted the wrong video.
