Sounds familiar, Ive had mine since they came out in 2000 and its been a good damn truck, 115,000 mi. on the clock and runs like a champ. Trouble is my 13 year old GS looks at it every time they come around, says ut will be his someday, probably will be as Im 80 now lol, but still active!!!!!!!!!!!

Buddy and Scout were pissed to be locked up! They usually get to run with the truck but it was a very busy weekend.

 

Hi Nick: yes it was a first off item he created way back when, Ive still got it and thought about re-installing it but seems like hot weather is its enemy, I could try it with premium gas I guess but not worth it to me. Here a coupls of photos of it.

Ah I see. Very simple. Many people say that the factory air box is more of a cold air intake than most the aftermarket options anyway. Factory pulls air through the fender pretty well already. That could be the problem with the heat since it doesn't pull as much air in from outside the hot engine bay.

 

Yup my had the 265/70/16's pictured. Lots of sweet trucks. Just picked up this 02 (built 7/2001) SR5 RCLB.

So far I've done head unit camera, Tint. Purchased pro comp 69's 16x9 and Icon Titanium 17x8. 16-MT Baja, 17-Falkin Wildpeak. Can't seem to choose between ome 1500 set up or keep searching. I don't tow but have have payload often. Truck only has 32k and was garaged its whole life. Only had it for a month but I like it more then my 05 Hemi.

 

I was told by a mechanic for Toyota, that replaced my sons motor, it failed because of the heat ( 110' in Parker Az) and extra pull of towing a boat with an air filter that allowed more air that it was designed for as the reason it exploded ????
Now if it had been running on premium fuel?? maybe it would have survived I don't know but that's the story he gave me. On the brighter side Toyota paid for the repairs!!!!

PS I will say that my truck with the item installed was what seemed to be noticeably quicker??

 

Must be an old man special. Either you knew the right person or you have deep pockets with today's market. I'm sure it's a nice one.

I'm not really for sure. Just what a lot of people say about trying to run cold air intakes. If you're worried about issues it may not be worth the risk.

 

Hey man we have similar trucks. I just got mine. I ordered pro comp 69's chrome. I think all black on your truck will look better. However. I think I might return the pro comps bc I heard they rust easily (,they were inexpensive and we use salt here in MD too) .

Your right. My relative (2nd cousin) passed away. So I'm going to keep it and let family utilize it. His brother sold it to me for $7000 which I think was a good price. It is almost Ike new. Right on edge of too few miles driven. But he serviced it good. I spent a few hours with a wire wheel underneath and coated the frame.

Also what are your guys thoughts on pro comp wheels? I just made a order w MT tires but I think I'm going to return bc I want snow rated tire and hear pro comp wheels rust quickly. Love all you picks. -J

Mine has spent its entire life in Cally (yuk) and Arizona, so not much in bad weather and it shows no sign of that dreaded rust, yippee. Only had a small amount of little problems also, nothing major, hence my thoughts on keeping it until I cant drive anymore, then give it to my Grand son. He's 12 and checks it out every time he's over here lol

Pretty sure I'm going to return pro comp 69's I'll see what they look like in person when they get delivered Tuesday. Thinking I wanted snow rates tires as I go into mountains frequently. Appreciate any feedback. Anyone on here have the MT Baja EXP'S?

 

Yeah in this market you stole that. 32k miles if it's super clean that could go for high teens maybe low 20k range if sold in the right place.

Man you'll rot that frame out in the winter if it's original. Hopefully whatever cleanup and coating you did will keep it nice for a while if that's what your daily winter rig will be. I'd personally keep that thing nice and find something else to use in the winter.
I know everyone's got their own budget and I understand not all can have multiple vehicles. Just my .02

 

I literally run regular fuel in mine and never had a issue. It's the "cold air intake" piping and all. It's been transferred from my old 2000 to this one but this far It seems to be running fine. Only time will tell. As my truck isn't on the road yet.

 

If it's any consolation, mine was basically rebuilt before I got it. Cab used to be dark grey, and the bed was dark green. Someone swapped a rust free bed onto it then painted the whole shebang black.

Hey thanks man. I wire wheeled it, air compressored it clean and 4 coats of 3M underbody coating. I don't think it's a good permanent protection. What are you Salt state guys doing?
Bed off rhino? I have a second vehicle, will try to take your advice.

How do we save these stock frames? TIA

 

Personally I just don't drive mine in the winter. I got a new frame last year. I've got a 96 Camry that I use pretty much exclusively for snow.
I feel like fluid film over top of your coating couldn't hurt but it does seem like you have quite the layer of protection. Though it's hard to say how long the coating will last.

 

I forgot to say something the other day when you posted. Has the timing belt been done on this truck? Mileage wise it's near new but it's a 20 year old belt. May want to look into that if you're not sure. Would hate to see such a low mileage engine destroyed.

 

This was my timing belt after 141,000 miles. I ran straight to the store and bought a lottery ticket.... getting lucky 50% of the time was good enough that day
