Just purchased my new Tundra a week ago. I have purchased a Tonneau cover for the bed and a bed rug to go over the existing bed liner. I have a question regarding running wiring for a mobile ham radio from the battery to the cab. I have used one of the existing holes in the firewall, grommeted of course, but I noticed that there is no way to run the new wiring harness across the back of the engine compartment and above the engine as it crosses to the driver-side run through the firewall. I want to be certain that the wires do not get affected by the engine heat. Any ideas?

    Thanks.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Doesn't the back of the engine bay have enough firewall across the top to run a harness?

Thank you all. Bakershack: As you have indicated, there is enough room at the back to run the wiring harness, but the real problem is attaching the harness with zip ties or other devices to keep the harness above the engine itself. In other installations I have done, there have been either stock wiring harnesses that ran just under the plastic tray below the windshield and windshield wipers to which you could zip tie the additional wiring intended, or there were other attachment points that would accomplish the same result. However, none of those options exist back in the same area of the new Tundra. I really don't want to drill holes in the plastic tray to zip tie the new harness. Thank you for taking the time to address my question.

Welcome and greetings from Minnesota. If you are unable to get an answer in the new member section, you may want to re-post your question in the “ask a Toyota Mechanic “ thread of the forum. Lots of knowledge folks monitor that thread. Good luck.

Welcome, what about running the wires from the battery into the cab? Is there a grommet on the passenger side? I have always run my wires direct into the passenger compartment, sometimes it's on the driver side, sometimes passenger.
