So, I tried to remote start my truck yesterday and I got this message in my Toyota app:

2022 Tundra hybrid trunk/hatch is open. Also got remote command failed. Please ensure vehicle is not in use and doors/trunk are closed and locked.

On the dash, it shows that my tailgate is down when in fact it's closed. I closed several times, checked connections, and everything looks ok. In the pic, I do have my drivers door open to take the pic. Maybe a faulty sensor? Any ideas?

I took my truck in yesterday and this was one of the issues I mentioned although it presented itself in a different way.

In my case, sometimes on acceleration the dash would indicate that my tailgate was open and then it would go away when I came off the accelerator. Probably just a slightly misaligned sensor.

Same thing I experienced. Pulled over and closed the tailgate a few times.

This fixed the issue? I have opened and closed my tailgate about 20 times and the red light is still on and the Toyota app continues to say "rear hatch open". Where is the sensor that needs aligned? I looked underneath to make sure the connectors were properly seated and all was ok.

I don't know yet if it's fixed or not for myself since it happens so intermittently. It could be a misaligned sensor or it could be the latch itself not closing tightly enough.

Update: dealer adjusted my tailgate lock catches on each side. Apparently, the tailgate wasn’t closing correctly and once the tech adjusted the catches, the sensor light was gone and all is well.

Makes sense! I'll take a look later today and see if this is easily adjusted
