I am having a Westcott 3/1 lift installed as well as 35/12.5 Coopers at a local shop which also does wheel alignment. They are telling me that after the lift is installed that I should drive it for a week or so prior to doing the alignment in order for the suspension to settle. Somehow, this does not make sense to me as I am retaining the factory suspension, am I wrong? If you’ve had a Westcott lift installed did your installer ask you to drive it around prior prior to alignment? Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

I am going to have the same Westcott 3/1 installed soon with Falken LT285/65R20. I spoke with the installer earlier today. They advised that alignment would take place immediately after install and prior to my picking up the truck. It seems strange and alarming to me that you are being asked to drive it around for a week after installation “allowing it to settle” prior to having it aligned. This could potentially cause some damage and uneven tire wear from my perspective. Disclaimer: I am not a suspension tech or mechanic but have had suspension installed in various vehicles with immediate alignments afterwards in each case.

If you drive it around for "a week or so" without an alignment...depending on how much you drive in that week...you could do some noticeable damage to those expensive 35" tires you're putting on.

I had my alignment done after driving it around the block once

I work for Lexus Service department and have the luxury of having access to do the alignments myself. We’ve done a few of these trucks now and the specs are too far off after installing the lifts. A day or two no big deal but I wouldn’t drive my truck for that long with it that far out of spec especially on highway.
