Just got back from a weekend of fishing. Went for carp (my son wanted to catch one because he never caught one before). Jig heads and rubgrub bodies. About my fourth cast on the river I hooked up and he reeled it in like a champ! Also got some cats, sheephead, white bass, and a quillback. Then to a small lake to jig for bass. Then later another lake for jerkbaits and walleye. Snapchat-1941811071.jpg PXL_20220703_151249513~2.jpg 13281~2.jpg

We only ate the walleye fillets and cheeks. I know a lot of people eat the cats and carp, but I'm not a huge fan of either. My son loves trying new fish which is fun. Caught a couple yellow perch the other day when we were fishing and he talked me into keeping a few bluegill. Figured if I was already going to be cleaning fish why not. I do not remember ever eating bluegill and they were pretty darn good.

@xtyfighterx that's one heck of a cleaning table - may have to look into that set up.

I’ve heard that the best recipe for carp is to sandwich the fish between a couple thin planks of cedar. Then you put it in your smoker for about 3 hours. When it’s done, you throw the carp in the garbage and eat the planks.

Most of my fishing is on small streams up high in the mountains. Small flies, fiberglass fly rods, and click and pawl reels. The fish aren't big, but they're hungry and pretty!

Not sure what I'd do on a big river! All the streams w native species can be done w a 3wt here in AZ; makes the fight fun when you get a bigger one too. September I was in CO near Dolores to hit some of the small waters on the way to Telluride.
