    Hi,

Just bought a 2022 and I don't like how the rear storage is designed. It takes space away and I wish I would have a flat floor in the back.

Is it possible to remove the rear unit under the seats? If someone did it, can they send me a pic? I have a big 95 pounds Bouvier of Flanders to bring with me everywhere :)

I love that idea, but damn that's expensive. $2400 for a 100% rear seat delete because the 60% & 40% kits are sold separately. I was expecting it to be made out of some marine-grade composite material for that price, but nope...just wood that's bedlined. Ouch.

I'm sure it's a great product and they spent a lot time on R&D to make it viable. I can respect that they need to recoup their development costs and earn a profit from their hard work. I just wish there was a price point more approachable for the everyday person.

I might have to go get a sheet or two of 1/2" or 3/4" plywood and fabricate something on my own.

I think there are a lot people that in the overland community that DIY this type of thing. If its for a dog, I don't see why some 5/8" plywood and carpet wouldn't do the trick. Could even make some simple door lids to access below. Would make a nice weekend project.

I take issue with statements like these. Everyone in this forum with exception of one guy who got it at 300? bucks under, bought a new 2022 at MSRP or with a dealer mark up.

This is an expensive truck that many treat like a toy. I would argue buying this all new truck at current prices doesn't put you in the "every day person" category.

    Just my .02. Rant over.

same issue. this along with a few other areas, prevented me from doing a deal earlier this year.
the solution shown in this thread covers and does not remove. You end up losing all that cubic space.
Looking for something that is reversible if you sell later to make it stock again.
Can the storage frame be removed and installed again later?

That's a bad assumption to make. So because I bought my truck at MSRP, I'm somehow not an "everyday person"? You're claiming I'm more affluent than the average person because I bought a truck at MSRP that was cheaper than used a CPO 2.5 Gen?

    Makes sense to me. /s

I would love to hop in a Delorean, go back in time to 4 years ago, and buy a brand truck with incentives for $4k below MSRP. Unfortunately, we don't live in those days anymore and my wife & I needed a second vehicle now. I got the best deal that I could...which was MSRP. Just because you don't approve of the deal that I got doesn't make me rich.

Let's clear up some dots you connected and assumptions made that are false.

    - I don't disapprove of your purchase.
    - You stated "every day guy prices" for the back seat delete and I countered with this new truck is not an "everyday day man" purchase.
    - I'm not arguing the logic you used to buy it. Don't care why.

The fact you can purchase it and did, makes you more affluent than the guy buying a 250k mile 1st Gen cause that's all he can afford. The median US household income is $67,251

So no, I do not consider your purchasing power those of an "every day man". That's not a bad thing nor am I shaming it.

The fact this is lost on you is unfortunate but I understand. It is common for us (myself included) to lose our objectivity when it is personal. All depends on the lense you look through.

If your benchmark is the median US household income as your "everyday man" threshold then I assure you...I'm more "everyday man" than you realize. I wish I made $67k annually. Your broad stroke statements, whether personal or not, are negative and narrowminded.

Nothing is "lost" on me. You took a conversation about the price point of an aftermarket accessory and decided to make a statement about my wealth aka buying power (and the wealth of every other purchaser of just about any modern day, expensive item). Did I take it personally? Absolutely. Why? See below:

You'll disagree. That's fine. I disagree with you. We'll have to agree to disagree. That's about as far as statesmanship goes in the modern day.

I do disagree. Obviously I struck a nerve and while I stand by my comments, my goal was not for you to feel attacked and I could of taken a better approach in my post.

My point was that purchasing a such in demand NEW truck and shopping/buying mods is a luxury that I do not believe a lot of people would classify as "every day man".

I think I zeroed in on your post in particular after reading about ADM on this truck in another thread and thinking a lot of these new 3rd gen buyers are nuts. Then I saw your quip about the cost of a rear seat delete and rolled my eyes at the "affordable" comment.

Again, it was not my intent to call you out and attack you specifically. Apologies

Dude you dont know his reasons nor anyone elses. Theres alot of unknowns here. He could have been saving for years , he could have totaled his old one. His old one could have crapped out at a less than favorable time after many years of use , or he could have juzt graduated his kids and can afford it now or on and on and on. The reasons are endless why he may have done it, and he may be driving it the next 20 years to make it financially viable. Then again he could also be affluent but his point is its way more common for someone to buy new truck than someone to go out and buy a 250k mile used truck. I can count on one hand how many 1st gens i see rolling around so that doesnt really hold water. The majority like it or not , are new to relatively new trucks/vehicles. Also just because someone drives an old truck doesnt say anything about them either. Before my tundra i had a 95 f250 bc i wanted one , i could have bought a brand new one if i wanted. What kind of truck one has means nothing to your point. Youre entitled to your opinion but you sound more bent about your own situation than making any sense to your argument.

Alright fair enough I guess. Saving for years is a possibility.

No I'm not bent out of shape. My financial situation is solid enough to do whatever I want.

The rest of my response is already sent to him and covers most of this.

Yes, it is. There's a metal subframe under that will also need to be removed. Once that's gone, you won't be able to reattach your seats. It's not pretty, since it leaves a mess of bare metal, insulation, wiring, and electrical units. I've not removed everything, but you can figure it out from these pictures:

    IMG_3538.HEIC.jpg IMG_3540.HEIC.jpg

    Thanks!

It's $650 for just the raw wood seat delete bases. You can then finish them however you want. Considering bed liner is $155 for a gallon kit from Autozone, I'd personally recommend having them do it! Here's their prototype:

    IMG_3632.HEIC.jpg

The full price you're seeing includes the MOLLE panel back, which is completely optional (and completely awesome), and definitely not necessary if you're just transporting dogs.

I don't produce or sell these, I just own them, but I do know that quality wood is pretty damn expensive. You can build your own from some low grade MDF, but this stuff is stronger and designed to last.

The material used is a birch that's about 15% lighter than typical plywood, and is really the best material for the job. Aluminum wouldn't work, and composite would be much more expensive (although I'm sure he'd do it for you if you asked - he works with a composite that's about 60% lighter than typical plywood). If you're concerned about payload and weight, skip the optional seat back MOLLE. Either way, the system is lighter than the seats it replaces.

Here are some more pictures of my setup - let me know if you have any other questions. If I don't know the answer, I'll pass them on to SHW Off Road!

i think i will stick to a cheap seat cover for the dogs to destroy since they rarely go on trips anymore :)

or get a drop in cover for when the seats are up since our current 2018 seats are up 99% of the time due to dogs and hauling space. its just the wife and me 99% of the time anyway except the rare occasion when we need the back seats for grandson or friends on trips.

No denying the quality. I would 100% definitely pony up for their plans. I know they sell just the plans for the 4Runner products. Hopefully, they'll do the same in the future with this. Unfortunately, the other hitch in the giddy up, is they only support the CrewMax right now. I know the measurements for the DC are doing to be reduced.

I've sprayed 2-part Raptor Liner on many parts in my garage in the past. It's work, but work I'm happy to do myself to save some coin.

This will be a fun weekend project for me coming up. Time to make some cardboard templates to see how much wood I'll need. :)

As soon as he gets his hands on a DC in central Kentucky it'll be offered! I think the DC would just have a slightly shorter base, so shouldn't be too difficult to create.

Took the rear seats out of my double cab today. The lack of cargo space in the back is a joke, even compared to my 2012. I'm an electrical contractor and I carry bags of tools back there and camping gear when I'm not working. I like SHW's seat delete but for $1250 for just the lower, I'll buy an $85 sheet of birch (ply) wood veneer and build my own damn platform! 20220813_091646.jpg 20220813_091628.jpg20220813_092920.jpg 20220813_092936.jpg

I did this in my Tacoma and it became really loud with road noise in the cab. Did that happen to you in the new Tundra?

I'm awaiting a 23 1794 Crewmax but all I'm interested in is a simple cover over the cargo portion. Seems like a lot of thought and info has gone into this thread. i'm older and cannot build, but was thinking heavy plastic to set totes on with the seats folded up and how to clip down over the misc items. All ideas welcome, thanks

On my 1794 hybrid they dont fold flat, and if I fold them up it more less a useless space unless you want to just chuck the crap in the hole. My 2012 we took the back seat out for extended periods, this truck the Hybrid has removed that option. So I chose a tonneau cover to put stuff under that apparantly can fly off at highway speed hahahaha. Cant make this stuff up

none so far, but would like to
Do you have any storage recommendations for the Hybrid? There’s very little space behind the rear passenger seat and I was hoping to find something that would allow some EDC stuff.

I sat down and thought how often do I use all this crap I am packing around, and how often am I off grid. In the end I just dont pack it, and if I am heading out off the beaten path I huck it in the box.
