Curious to see what thoughts were on this

I have 5k but all highway miles

Suggest first oil change now and then 7K afterwards or 5k always?

Toyota says 10k miles, Ive always done 5k intervals.

There are entire threads discussing this timeline, personal preference. Synthetic oil is good for 10k miles....a paper filter however- depends on who you ask.
I just replace every 5k because it is inexpensive to do so and offers peace of mind.

I just stick with what the manual says I should do. The millions and billions Toyota has put into figuring this shit out carries more weight to me than what anyone who disagrees on forums and articles says.

The 10k is what they can get away with to make it through warrantee numbers. I wouldn’t run AMS oil for 10k. If you trade vehicles in frequently then go for it if that’s your cup of tea.

I do 10,000 miles per the manual for my 2017 5.7L normal driving conditions. I'm at 84,000 miles and new oil is still amber/honey color on the dipstick at 6,000 miles. I'm running 5W30 Mobil 1 and will be switching to Costco Kirkland brand at 90k. Mama Toyota filters.

OK, I’ll bite. For those that are comparing the 5.7 to the “new” 3.5L TT V6, I would suggest the TT is “harder” on the oil than a NA V8. Not apples to apples. Only you can determine if halving the OCI is worth twice the cost.

I would recommend changing your oil at 5k miles, oil and filter. It’s cheap insurance, especially if you do it yourself. I perform my first oil change on new vehicles at approximately 1k miles, then at 5k miles and every 5k thereafter.

The Car Care Nut explains why he too recommends the same, no more than 5k miles for oil changes in his recent video:

Couldn't agree more. I do the same. First change around 1k miles, then 5k (or 6 month) intervals thereafter. For me it usually turns out to be every 6 months as I work from home and do not put a lot of miles on my truck.

My manual says 5k, unless you burn corn in your Tundra:

(FFV engines should 5k I guess?)

He says 5k or 6 months whatever comes first. He is a certified master mechanic who deals exclusively with the Toyota brand. I would listen to his advice IMO.

My Land Cruiser had 292,000 mile on it when I purchased it with a blown head gasket. I figured that at nearly 300k I should throw a set of bearings, rings, timing change etc. at it so I pulled the engine.
I had all of the original owner's maintenance records. 6,000 to 10,000 OCI from what ever quick-stop place was convenient. All Dino-juice. No synthetic.
That engine was clean. The bore, bearings, pistons, rings, timing chain, guides etc. were in excellent condition. I decked the head and the block The only parts I replaced was the head gasket and seals.
Regular OCIs are key. At one point I would have argued that it was all about regular OCIs with a good oil. My LC had regular changes with who knows what kind of oil. It faired very well.
IMO, 7,000 should be just fine. It is well below the Toyota recommendations.... that is unless you qualify as "severe service". I do :) Probably most of us do.... So, Toyota does not wholeheartedly promote 10,000 mile OCIs. They say that it can be done under ideal conditions. I would agree with that.....

I had my Tundra in for service last week with about 6500 miles on it and asked for an oil change since it was there already. The service advisor said, "sure, we can do it, but you are throwing your money away. I would definitely not recommend it." I've never kept a vehicle past 60,000 miles so I took his word for it; I'll do it at 10,000.

So y'all started getting me spooked on the oil change... I got 7,000 miles on Tanya and I was ready to take her to the dealer tomorrow for a change. Ohhh the Blackstone! Ohhh the metal pieces.... OMG, what have I done, I've ruined my engine...

So then I pulled the dipstick for a quick inspection of my 7,000 mile oil. What do y'all think? Looks pretty good to me...

My dealer is about 100 miles away but I plan on doing my first @ 3k miles which is coming up shortly. After that I'll do 5k and pay for every other one with Toyota Care paying for the other one...if I ever make it LOL. I've had my Tundra almost 6 months and barely have 2700ish miles, that includes a thousand miles round trip to Westcott the second week I owned it.

The Tundra has a dynamic oil change interval. The computer will calculate the oil life and tell you to when to change it. I think mine said something like 9736 miles which I thought was weird. Anyway, the biggest issue with modern oils and the oil change interval is the amount the oil goes down over time. Subaru changed the OCI on some of their vehicles from 10k to 7.5k because the boxer engines were consuming a lot of oil causing the level to get too low and leading to oil starvation. Most people don’t expect to top off their engines. All engines consume some oil but Toyota’s 3.5 V6TT seems to be ok in terms of oil consumption.

I honestly believe that with modern oils and with Toyotas engineering there's no worries about modern oil changes going out 10k miles.

That being said I run mine at 5k, only because I rotate my tires every 5k. Cleaner oil will never hurt.

Oil is cheap, engines are not, 5k intervals for mineral or blend and 7-8k synthetic (checking life at 5k then making the call) seems safe enough

Turbocharged engines put more heat and wear into the engines and since I tow our travel trailer, I've done mine at 5K and will continue to do so.
