TRD Pro (or Anyone w the Big Moon Roof) Interior Lighting (or lack thereof)

Is it just me, or is the interior lighting for these trucks grotesquely inadequate?

Two dinky map lights up front and a tiny dome light thing in the back? Was fishing inside for 30 minutes last night and the lighting felt more like dome ambient light than dome lighting.
I hope Meso Customs can come up with something quick. I had his ultimate map/dome light kit in my Taco and those things were absolutely bad ass!

 

There was a thread about this a few months back…some felt it was (I did coming from my 2015 where it was truly a center dome light) but others felt it was ok…I think we split 50/50

I thought the lighting was fine…until I really wanted to see in the cabin. It’s fine for everyday ambience as you get in and out without being harsh but leaves a lot to be desired when you truly need to see in there.

 

Would you guys like to see dual color or dual brightness on these ? We may be able to start working on it.

 

I’d like just to see anything at this point. LoL

But the Taco ones were straight up legit.

We have some Tundra gear now and more in the works.
We will look into these interior lights.

 

Interior lighting with moon roof sucks. Looks cool as mood lighting, but functionality is close to naught at night in the cabin.

 

Count me in. The '22 Tundra lighting with the moonroof options is horrible as stated above.

 

Dual brightness would be very practical. Low brightness setting for when the doors open and high brightness for when the light is pressed. I don't think most people would need the high brightness for ingress/egress but when you're looking for something, you're going to be pressing that button.

Would love to see much brighter overhead and foot floor area front and back LEDs that come on when door is opened. A kit with all including where to source power for foot floor area would be a home run. Floor LEDs could mount under dash in front and under rear edge of front seats for the rear foot floor area.

 

I would echo all of that, plus brighter led in the glovebox. Was looking for something in there the other day at dusk and was almost like there wasn’t a light at all. Brutal

 

I'll have to get my hands on a 2022 soon. It sounds like a whole new interior lighting package would be necessary.

And an overhead molle rack for 2.5 gen with a handle retention kit

 

i 2nd that as well. Multi-level brightness would be great as I don’t need a spotlight when getting in or out, but it’s nice to have usable lighting when needed.

 

I will definitely keep these in mind when we start working on '22 projects. Thank you all for the input.

Big fan of my 2017 Meso interior lights on the old truck-aside from their true usefulness (used reds all the time for night fishing/boat ramps, etc), everyone who ever saw them went "wow!"

Anyway,
Rear 2022 Tundra interior light module can most likely be easily made a new (with your design and light choice), and probably just as easily installed by your average Tundra owner.
The fronts are a problem however. What you see in pics posted above is that only the clear plastic lense/button is clickable (to turn them on/off), but those 2 measly white LEDs are integrated into the circuit board inside the assembly itself. They are not removable either...and to "replace them" you'd need to take the whole thing apart, de-solder and have a custom enclosure ready with wiring for replacements as well.
Not saying you can't to it, but I don't see how this can easily be done, nor easily installed by a user.
**Didn't put much thought into designing something ala Meso, so forgive me for my limited "forward thinking" here.

I was determined (after running those 2017 Tundra MESOs), and found a way to install a set or red LEDs within the overhead console itself, after taking it completely apart. There is enough room for 2x of the LEDs you see below.
These are very small and not tacky looking; no one ever notices them unless they are on.
**I won't go into my custom wiring here, but I can run these along with OEM white lights, with doors open (OEMs off), or completely independently.

All in all,
Just a little bit of additional info for you/anyone, in case you're interested.

One more thing: I don't know what the market for this would be, but perhaps another product idea for the 2022 Tundra crew?
Front door courtesy lights (in door panels) are also "measly" while LEDs...think ppl would be interested in red LED replacement, or perhaps selectable white/red?

Bump, older thread. What’s everyone doing for more interior lighting at this point. Read several threads. Will the Meso lights work on a 1794, or are the circuit boards permanent via soldering? I had read that elsewhere on here.
