Honestly been considering buying another Camry since I don’t have my old one anymore lmao. I mean San Diego is has a lot of hills and windy roads so maybe that it. I never really commute anywhere so it’s mostly city. I’m just assuming it’s the constant stop and go of San Diego traffic. I’ll definitely check that out though

Like the rear diff? I’ve honestly never checked it so I don’t know. I’ll check it out

Yea it’s pretty bad. The amount of trails out here make it worth it though. I live right next to the border so border patrol has a bunch of trails lmao. Technically illegal but they just ask us to leave.

Definitely true. But I’m 19 and live at home while I go to college and my parents basically told me that if I can afford to buy another car then I can afford to move out. So the only real option would be to sell the tundra and buy another car which I really don’t want to do. Rather just deal with the gas prices. Don’t know why they have a problem with it, but if I want to continue going to college then I have to listen to them

Tire weight in stop&go traffic is the biggest factor contributing to poor MPG.

    Too many, but not enough....
It would be worth getting an ultraguage for around 100 bucks to watch fuel trims in real time for anomalies. At the very least use it to watch your throttle position. Keep it under 30% to improve mileage. If it's more than 17% at idle it's killing your mileage and should be cleaned.

There’s no go in San Diego, LA traffic…lol. all you do is let go the brake and step on the brake again…it’s always idling

Yea part of me wants to drop out and start my life, but I’m on a scholarship and doing that would be a big “fuck you” to all of my family and friends that supported me. Might just buy a motorcycle and call it a day lol.

I’ll look into buying one. Was also thinking about getting a pedal commander for the eco mode but I’ve heard mixed reviews.

Everything is mechanically sound. Actually just changed the spark plugs and they looked amazing for 100k mile vehicle. Got a few suggestions but from the responses, I can see I’m not the only one in socal that has to deal with the terrible gas mileage.

Look man, you're a student and don't NEED that Tundra at this point in life. But hell, I don't NEED mine either but at 68 I can afford to repair anything that goes wrong with it. I believe what many have said and there is something wrong with that truck if you're only getting 9 MPG. I have a lead foot and still manage 12 in between fill ups. But I'd strongly advise you to sell it now while it retains a good value and buy a little 4 banger to finish school in. After you graduate look for a "Certified" used Tundra. They really do a good job with their certified used vehicles and you'll have something you only have to worry about keeping the payments up to date. You can throw money at your truck from now on and may never figure it out. Buying something cheap to own and operate will also enable you to save for when you're out of school and you might have saved a good down payment. My advice is free as well as everyone on this forum Take it or not. It cost you nothing. Good luck, whatever it is that you do.

According to the truck, I average 11.5mpg
    07 Crewmax 4x4 on 35s.

It is not my daily (not that my daily does a whole lot better on gas but)

Sounds low. I have “skinny” 34” (285 / 75 / 17) big ko2 on icon alloy wheels. Check out fuelly in my sig. I get 11-17 depending on speed, idle time, etc. 9 sounds low. Tire pressure? How heavy are wheels/ tires? Super windy and hilly with 85 mph speed limits and long idle times? I idle a bit and do lots of short trips. Expected mine to be the worst of anyone. Use fuelly. Might help identify a pattern(?)

One big factor is ethanol content. Anytime I fill up in a big city, I loose 2-3 mpg with my GX460.

I’m 14 mpg for a short period of time in the spring and fall. Most of the time I’m closer to 12 because I’m too much of a sissy to get into a hot or cold truck.

Going easy on take offs and not letting it idle for a long time that have really helped with lowering the price tag on fun. Im on 295/70/18s Toyo AT3s with a 2" leveling kit and get around 10-11 city and about 14.5 highway. So i would say youre not too far off from me at least. Ive got 170k miles but have a Sung top bed cover if that even helps with mpg?

I was getting around 12mpg with 35s. According to the onboard computer it dropped to around 9 then I got the check engine light. My fuel pump was going out. Swapped out the fuel pump and got around 12 again

some changes too many to list
Due to towing a TT I recently had Yokohama Geolander A015 275/65R18 all around including spare at keeping 50psi. My previous tires were same size but were Falken d rated that ran at 35 psi. MPG went from 12.8 to 14.2. I drive back and forth to work part time and learned that if I stay at 65mph vs. 70 mph I also improved my MPG but then again I am an "old man" !
When towing I get 10-10.5 mpg but I am good with that.

Fun fact, no matter what weight you tow, 10-11 mpg is max for towing. I tow a stand behind skid steer from HD once, and that’s all I got…lol

Sheesh you all are giving this guy bad advice:p

Replace tires and put on low resistance tires on.
Place a large sail on the Tundra to give it that extra push, (Lotsa wind in Cali).
Turn off motor when going down hill....its like that start and stop technology.
Take out all the unnecessary weight crap outta the truck, i.e....girlfriends, wives...:D:p
Dont hit the gas pedal hard at the stop light, the guy behind you will push you along, it's my understanding that most people nowadays can't drive:rolleyes:

Oh and it's a Tundra....it doesn't get great gas mileage, they are fun to drive.
Disregard all the above information or do so at your own risk....:eek2:.......:D
