Just purchased, then added; 3" frt 2" rear MotoFab lift/lvl kit. 20x9 MotoMetal M0962 wrapped with 305/5520 Nitto Terra Grapplers. Spyder projecter black/smoked with halos
HEY TUNDRA HEADS! HOPE ALL IS GOING WELL WITH ERRYBODY!! MY TUNDRA... HAS BEEN SOOO SOLID, VERY HAPPY WITH MY DECISION TO PURCHASE IT A FEW YEARS BACK. ACTUALLY SHOULD HAVE PURCHASED ONE SOONER, BUT LIVE AND LEARN RIGHT!
THE OL TRUCK HAS COME TO A SMALL PROBLEM, WHICH ISNT HUGE YET, BUT IM HOPING TO SEE IF YALL HAVE SEEN THIS PROBLEM, OR HAD TO REPAIR THIS ISSUE, BEFORE SHE LEAVES ME STRANDED.
THE PROBLEM USUALLY HAPPENS WHEN THE ENGINE OR ENGINE BAY IS WARM, AND THE TRUCK HAS SAT AROUND FOR 3 HOURS OR LONGER. WHEN I GO TO START... IT WILL ONLY CRANK/SPIN OVER. IT WILL NOT START UP AND RUN. SOMETIMES IT SOUNDS LIKE IT TRIES TO CATCH, BUT THEN WILL CONTINUE TO JUST CRANK/SPIN. THIS WILL GO ON FOR AROUND 10-15 SECONDS. THEN I TURN KEY OFF AND LET IT SIT FOR 10-15 SECONDS BEFORE TRYING AGAIN. SOMETIMES THE SECOND ATTEMPT WILL GET HER STARTED, SOMETIMES ITS THE THIRD ATTEMPT. 98% OF THE TIME, A COLD START LETS HER START RIGHT UP, NO PROBLEM, WHICH MAKES ME FEEL LIKE ITS NOT ACTUALLY A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM. BUT MAYBE SOME OTHER FUEL PROBLEM? I HAVE SEEN A FEW THREADS BEFORE, WHEN THE PROBLEM FIRST STARTED, AND GUYS WERE SAYING THE SAME... FUEL PUMPS WERE NOT FIXING. JUST WANTED SOME INSIGHT BEFORE I HAVE TO DIY LOL. THANKS IN ADVANCE YALL!

I'm not sure of '08s have a smart key, but this came from a similar thread that made me think it could be a similar issue:

To add to this: I know at least all 2007 and newer trucks have this. It’s part of the factory security system. Not sure if Gen1 tundras 2000-2006 have it also but I know 100% all 07 up do

The “smart key” was introduced in like 2020 and allows you to unlock the door as you grab the handle just by having the key fob in your pocket

You are absolutely right Jeff. I meant to type chip key, not smart key. Guess my fingers were working faster than my brain.

I have an 08 tundra does the exact same thing. Mine will always start on the second attempt but when it does it starts rich, black smoke for a couple of seconds. Gonna replace my fuel computer assembly today to see if it helps. Also when I run 91 octane gas, which I can’t get at the moment it starts fine with no issues.

Changed my computer issue started again. Noticed that my temp seemed a little low and was idling a little high. I noticed that when I turn my key on when engine warm I wasn’t showing any temperature. I changed my ect probe and she starts perfect and idles perfect.
